Burn deck help

I'm making a burn deck, but there is one card and I want to know if it exists. Hypothetically, the card would make it so that the cleanup step is skipped or creatures do not heal. Is there any card like that that exists?

Soul-Scar Mage is the card you want. It doesn't do exactly what you--it is better. After all, not only are you reducing their toughness, you also get a reduction to enemy creatures' power.

Everlasting Torment is similar, but it also works for combat damage. That said, it costs more to cast and is likely not worth it.

I also saw your recent post regarding Goblin Guide and figured I would answer your question.

Goblin Guide is a fantastic card. It can swing for 2 on the turn it is dropped, provides you some information about what is in your opponent's hand, and can just keep on swinging each turn. The fact that it provides your opponents lands is fairly inconsequential.

Monastery Swiftspear is another staple in red burn, as it can swing early, and just keeps getting bigger with your burn spells.

Out of curiosity, what would be the use of Soul-Scar Mage in burn? Chip damage at threats like Wurmcoil Engine and Tasigur, the Golden Fang? Main board or sideboard?

generalrenard I needed a card that would weaken other creatures and eventually destroy them as the burn deck I'm trying to build has a small amount of creatures to deal with giant creatures. I would definitely run it in my sideboard, it wouldn't be useful against aggro decks.

Tip: don't play board control in burn. Go for the kill instead of wasting damage on creatures.

If you're in white or black you could keep Path to Exile or Terminate on the SB.

You could also try Ensnaring Bridge

I'm not a pro or anything so if I say something stupid, feel free to correct me. Typically you are very behind if you are trying to target their creatures with your burn spells. This is what Apple01DOJ was saying. You want to prioritize spells like searing blaze for this very reason, does the damage to the creature but still will hit the player. That being said, it won't kill everything. Creatures like tarmogoyf usually won't die to that unless you attack or block into it with a creature first (usually what you need to do).

@Tekunetsu

You're correct, burn just wants to get the opponent dead as quickly as they can 99% of the time, and only throwing burn spells at creatures when absolutely necessary.

This is why burn generally runs Path to Exile or Ensnaring Bridge to deal with bigger creatures, as they are much cleaner answers to Tarmogoyf, Tasigur, the Golden Fang, Hollow One etc. and Searing Blaze will deal with any smaller stuff whilst still bolting the opponent
