ramping mages, i need your help

Deck Help forum

I am curious as to whether or not legit ramp is possible in U/G colors. I want to see more land, and less dorks. The cards that I think will accomplish this task are currently in Barrels?! That is interesting!. I am looking for advice, as this is my first attempt at legit ramp. I am aware of Garruk, Caller of Beasts , but I would like to be able to cast beasts without him if possible. I'm not trying to turn this into a R/G monsters net-deck either, so any comments that are equivalent to "copy-paste" you can keep to yourself. I'm just looking for spells that put land on my field that maybe I missed. Or if the cards in my current decklist are not effective let me know, before I go trying to make them work.

Any advice other than "net deck" is much appreciated. Thanks :]

Net deck.

Now that I got that out of my system...

I've been playing U/G Nykthos dork ramp for a while and it's doing pretty good. Don't try to restrict yourself to "legit" ramp. Cards like Peregrination and Urban Evolution are pretty much just outclassed by dorks. Though Font of Fertility is something I've been considering. It's a T1 play, it ramps T2, and can let you get a 4 drop T3.

As for things to ramp into, Polukranos, World Eater and Arbor Colossus are some of the best. Prime Speaker Zegana and Hydra Broodmaster are nice too.

Kiora, the Crashing Wave is "legit" ramp and a huge threat against control.

But seriously, Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx is nuts.

There aren't really any playable forms of "legit ramp" in Standard that cost 3 or less, except maybe Chromatic Lantern and Simic Keyrune , but those are still pretty meh and won't help you hit your 4-drops early. You can't really expect to speed up your curve with cards like that or Kiora, which is really only playable with Supreme Verdict to protect it.

If you're worried about removal and/or boardwipes thwarting a dork-based strategy, you just need to add in card advantage to couteract it. Garruk is clearly the best option for that, but you can also go with Prime Speaker Zegana and Jace, Architect of Thought . I ran all 3 in a Simic ramp deck that was winning about 80% of its matches. I also ran Master Biomancer to give those dorks some late-game relevance, and Bestowing one with Boon Satyr was always useful as well.

Well, you do kinda have all the good ones. Burnished Hart is the only card I can immediately think of, and that's a creature, even if it does end up with land on the field eventually.

It all depends on the reason behind the "legit ramp" mentality. It's much easier to make suggestions when I have a meta.

Sorry Epochalyptik. That was not really meant to be a decklist as much as it was a list of cards
