Planswalker protection combo?

Deck Help forum

Is there any way to protect Gideon of the Trials Infinitly. If i could do that after he makes his emblem, than I can't lose. The deck Idea is here: I don't lose. Help is welcome.

Depends how Janky you want to get...

My first idea, Steiny156, is Indestructibility.

Next is Isochron Scepter+Boros Charm... this one is my favorite, because it gives you options.

Just what came to my mind immediately.

Freezingfist Neither of those cards work. The walker still takes damage and removes loyalty counters, then dies as a state based effect.

Yup. WotC specifically designed Planeswalkers so that they weren't as easy as Indestructibility to protect.

You would essentially have to make yourself completely immune to damage of any sort, and make your Planeswalker hexproof. And if you've got that much set up, you've already won anyhow.

Edit: And for that matter, if you've established immunity to damage, Gideon's emblem isn't doing a whole lot for you.

Give Palisade Giant an Indestructibility... that is all I can come up with. However the combo will work almost always, even if you don't have Gideon, so it really shouldn't count

Fog effects protect you from combat damage, and there are cards that grant you (the player) hexproof like Orbs of Warding so that no direct damage can be dealt.

Alternately, just play Gideon, Champion of Justice and give him tons of counters.

CaesarSalad that's a good start. It establishes immunity to damage, but it still leaves the planeswalker vulnerable to removal like Dreadbore and Anguished Unmaking.

A pair of Privileged Positions would form a solid hexproof wall. But I think Merciless Eviction can't be stopped without a counterspell.

Nothing is truly invincible in Magic. That's what makes it such a successful and enjoyable game to play. Everything has a weakness. These days even cards like Last Word and Counterflux have cards that stop them.
