Outside help for changes to Mayael

Commander Deck Help forum

I'm at the point where making changes to my deck is difficult, even if it's just one card. The one card in question is Combustible Gearhulk: I want to add it, but I'm drawing a blank for cuts.

Gearhulk, in this deck at least, is much more threatening on the second mill option due to the high CMC of most of the fatties. And there is the chance my opponent could take a ton of damage and end up milling Kozilek or Ulamog so I get my graveyard back as well.

For cuts, how I evaluate my creature lineup: every fatty needs to do something, whether it's removal or immediate threat. So I've long since cut what I call "vanilla fatties": creatures that are just big and don't do anything immediately or give me an advantage, e.g., Hamletback Goliath, Worldspine Wurm. So following my evaluation, what I should cut for Combustible Gearhulk should be Godsire: An 8/8 that makes 8/8 vanilla tokens. On it's own, Godsire can make a formidable army if left unchecked, especially with Seedborn Muse, so I'm on the fence about it.

I'm interested to hear what other people think.

been staring @ your list for like 5 mins....Inferno Titan seems like your weakest creature...and it's not that weak...depends on how many how many piss-ant utility crts are in your meta I guess....Perhaps cutting a crt for a hulk isn't the answer....

I think your real weakest links are Nature's Claim, Harmonize & Tooth and Nail....

Yes I know at this point I sound like a crazy person....

All of these would be tough cuts....Nature's Claim is strong, and relying more on just Aura Shards (and/tutor to get it) + Beast Within,Chaos Warp, Krosan Grip is rough...but doable I think....

Harmonize is one of greens few straight draws...I'd rather see Cream of the Crop personally for this spot, but I'm bias I guess...(last week with my Naya Beast Tribal, I had out Cream of the Crop + Lurking Predators + Elemental Bond and shit got reallllllly stupid for about 5-6 turn rotations.)

As much as I love Tooth and Nail I'd argue that Lurking Predators and / or Hunting Grounds are better even though they're more reactive / circumstantial...

Even though I'm quite certain you're Mayael would eat mine, (our playgroup tones decks to 75% for casual) .... that's my .02 cents...

My Mayaelist (Beast Tribal) Decklist if you wanna glance @ some casual shenanigans....

Insightful.

Lurking Predators has long been removed from the deck. For that six mana it takes to cast it, I could activate Mayael's ability, or maybe use some spot removal. When I was playing with it, it usually wiffed or someone removed it.

Harmonize has always been an iffy spot, and Elemental Bond would probably replace it. I only still use it cause I have the full art. Same for the Inferno Titan: it's in there cause it took a while to find the promo.

Nature's Claim/Krosan Grip are in there because spot removal is always relevant. Casual our playgroup may be, there are still things on the field I want removed immediately. Relying on Aura Shards as my main source of artifact/enchantment hate would be difficult as the only search method is Enlightened Tutor.

understandable on all accounts... no thoughts on Cream of the Crop though?
