Wreath of Geists is useful.

I like that. It's a cheaper, faster, only slightly worse Bonehoard. I'm going to sub that into the sideboard for when you really need to get big quickly, or if they have artifact removal. Thanks!

A self-mill deck, with no Labratory Maniac? Whaaaaat.

Actually you probably don't need him from where this build is going, but you NEEEVEEERRR KNOWWWW.

Runlue, lol I know, I love him. I didn't think he was necessary this time around though. I may playtest him a little bit just to see. You never know. This deck wants to win before he's really useful.

I am surprised by the lack of the dredge mechanic here. Golgari Grave-Troll goes for about four bucks on TGC, Life from the Loam same. You could definitely use some of that gas here, and Skaab Ruinator is equally cheap and veeeeeery good.

Thanks FAMOUSWATERMELON (that name never gets old!). This is exactly why I ask for help. I forgot Dredge was even a thing - I'm still pretty noob. Looks like I've got some studying to do on Gatherer to get some Dredge in here. Thanks again!

Sure :) Those are the best cards for dredge in green, but splashing black would give you some delicious-looking cards too (Lotleth Troll, Bloodghast, Gravecrawler, etc...)

Ooooo... Lotleth Troll... Possible Sultai deck overhaul inbound...

With more black, I'm looking at Nightmare Void too. Add a little control w/ dredge to the slow ramp.

April 20, 2015 4:56 p.m.

Which is where Life from the Loam comes in, as it makes sure you're never short of lands :)

Mr. (or Mrs? Who's to know?) Watermelon... I think I love you. It's time to rebuild!

Consider this a prototype build, FAMOUSWATERMELON. What do you think so far?

April 20, 2015 5:30 p.m.

Looks fine to me :) I would advise that you put in at least one or two Grave-Trolls though just because of the amount of dredge.

Aren't the Grave Trolls banned in Modern, or was that reversed?

April 20, 2015 5:50 p.m.

Runlue They were unbanned earlier this year. Yay for dredge!!

Sagarys says... #16

It's showing legal in Gatherer.

Sagarys says... #17

Alright, I thought they were still banned too, I'm gonna add a couple in!

OK, got them added and tweaked some card counts. I think that's pretty balanced. This thing feels quite a bit nastier than it did an hour ago.

April 20, 2015 5:57 p.m.

Alright, so I think you need one last thing: discard outlets. If you have an imp or loam in your hand, it's going to be very difficult to get rid of. I would probably up the lotleth count by one so you can get rid of unnecessary cards AND make your creatures bigger.

Good thinking. Trimming off an Armored Skaab and adding another Lotleth Troll.

I really like what you've got going on here, it reminds me a lot of my deck Screams from the Fallen, you should check it out for some ideas.

That said I think you would benefit from switching out Armored Skaab for Satyr Wayfinder for a cheaper effect and early ramp. Also Bonehoard could be replaced by Nighthowler as it has the same effect for the same price (albeit double black) but still counts as a creature if you plunk it into your graveyard. I also don't really see why you have Negate in your build unless it is to protect your Splinterfright in which case you could replace it with Ranger's Guile for one cheaper, though I do understand Negate has more versatility.

If you cut out both Armored Skaab and Negate you can cut your build down to just green-black instead of running three color.

Also I'm just spit-ballin on this one but Nightmare Void, 4 CMC to force discard with a dredge effect. It's nifty but uhspencive. Another idea you could consider is the Dakmor Salvage + Raven's Crime combo. I know it's got its own pros and cons but you'd only need to run 1 of each with all the milling you'd be doing since its almost inevitable they'd both wind up in your graveyard before long.

Again, I'm just throwing out ideas here, and I really do like what you already have. Just some food for thought.

I have been considering taking the blue out. It used to be a more prominent part of the deck than it is now. I'll take a look in the morning. Thanks man!

As someone who plays Golgari, this is beautiful! I love it and I love how you kept with the haunted forest theme.

Thanks cscarborough0. I think I'm gonna convert it to full Golgari today too.

Alright, the deck has been transformed into a full Golgari build, and I feel like it is quite a bit tighter than before. I also added Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord for an extra wincon just in case he's needed. Let me know if there's anything you guys would change! Thanks to everyone that's made suggestions so far.
