You should definitely run both Demonic Tutor and Vampiric Tutor , they are absolutely the best tutors available in the game. I would suggest cutting Serra Ascendant because unless you get her on the board between turns 1 and 3, maybe 4, she's not that great.

PlattBonnay Agreed, they are both money, but I decided to lose the Tutors altogether and just add more pieces to my Rube Golberg machine of punishment for general usefulness. One concern was that I wouldn't want to have 1 or 2 Tutors in hand with a Mindlock Orb in play... I'll see how it plays out.

cireretals Good suggestion, I nearly forgot about Sphinx's Revelation ! Hmmmm... But what to swap? I'll give it some thought.

Any thoughts on Luminarch Ascension ?

Thanks for the comments. Please +1 if you haven't and feel the deck worthy.

If you ever want to make another fun killer deck, make a 60 card deck with Nature's Revolt and Pendrell Mists . Just use a lot of mana rocks or something to keep your mana going and your opponents scoop.

cireretals Please pardon this if you already know some or all of what follows.

This is a Stax deck with some Pillowfort aspects as well.

In essence, Stax is designed to make a horrible board state for permanents to live in, and also to put you in a position where you are better prepared to deal with it than your opponents. In this deck I have multiple taxing effects that cause my opponents to pay more for each spell, or add an upkeep to things that don't otherwise have one - All while limiting my opponents' Mana and ability to pay those "taxes". Sometimes things have to enter the battlefield tapped (Mine too), players might only be able to untap 1 or 2 things each turn (Me too), or they might have to pay Mana to attack me, Essentially, I'm wreaking havoc on their plans and slowing my opponents down, while playing with things that reduce the casting cost of my spells, or non-land mana sources that are unaffected by the negative effects in play.

Once I have locked down the board, and the other players to various degrees of incapacitation, I play my commander, or another creature and pick them off.

It's a war of limited resources, and the idea is to get to a board state where I can do more than my opponents can. When I can repeatedly do a lot more than you, the war of attrition will almost always go my way.

There's a really good Stax primer located here that can explain it in greater detail if you'd like to know more.

~= So, to answer your question, the whole deck is pretty much a "combo" in the sense that the more pieces I play, the worse things get for my opponents, but no one piece is completely necessary or irreplaceable. =~

That's my understanding of what Stax is, and the way I have developed this deck.

Just so you know I am stealing this deck, I play with a guy that uses Krenko, Mob Boss and Coat of Arms and few other cards. To make 1000s of goblins, and its no fun.... So I'll make it that way for him. MWHAHAHA

I could be missing something, but why Kataki, War's Wage when you yourself have so many artifacts? Other than that, looks beautiful. And yes, every play group has THAT GUY, who loves to make top tier decks to play in a casual game or simply make a deck that hard counters everyone else's. Got so bad that we actually made decks that purposefully don't use blue so we can all include things like Boil , Choke and Boiling Seas .

I had a deck for the same purpose in a different game. I couldn't stand the people who would come to a casual table area, set up shop, and wreck with a 2,000 dollar deck. So I built an ftk mill deck that would, slowly and without mercy, destroy all hopes of them winning. And as they would sit there, begging for mercy, I would calmly look them in the eye and say NO. I would then end my first turn, and they couldn't draw

I really like the deck, my only question is about Kataki, War's Wage . I imagine that you wouldn't have put her here if she hurt you more than she helps. But you just have so many artifacts. Part of me is just really surprised that she doesn't damage your gameplay.

Other than that, this is one of the best constructed decks I have ever seen. rather than focus on combos, you have an overarching plan that isn't hurt when a piece is removed. Like a game of chess. The game isn't lost when the queen is gone.

Necrotize and daemon_panda and anyone else who questioned Kataki, War's Wage ... I haven't actually had too many chances to play this deck yet. I do understand the skepticism, but I also feel like it's a good source of Artifact hate, and I can always choose not to cast Kataki, War's Wage if the situation is wrong. That being said, I do understand your points... Maybe I could substitute in Luminarch Ascension .

Excellent deck. Very frightful. I am loving that even though you have tons of board control you still run 10 board wipes. What better way to control permanents that don't exist? Definitely +1.

I am going to agree with the others on Kataki, War's Wage and say it'll hurt you more. Luminarch Ascension would make an excellent replacement. Either that, if you really want to keep that nasty spirit in, I would suggest taking out one of the board wipes, Orb of Dreams or Thalia, Guardian of Thraben . Orb of Dreams is already covered by other cards that don't effect you like Blind Obedience and Kismet and Thalia, Guardian of Thraben is another card that would greatly effect you, because you have few creatures though you still have the mana for it all.

Overall great deck. Keep building.
