That Burn! (1st at FMN again) —Dec. 12, 2014

Well I ran the deck at FMN again with a couple of alterations (Your suggestions were quite helpful). Anyway this is how the deck went.

Match 1: Monored vs Sultai Midrange 2-0

This what the same guy I played in the last match last week. Unfortunately for him he did not draw Drown in Sorrow in either game and so I was able to beat him before he stabilized in either game.

Match 2: Monored vs Abzan Midrange 2-1

Once again I played against someone who I played last week. This was the same guy I played in match 1 last time. I beat in game one as he was forced to mulligan to 4 cards while I kept a slightly 1 land 6 card hand, and after top decking a land on turn 2 I my opponent had no chance. I was beaten in game 2 as my opponent was able to use Whip of Erebos along with a couple of Siege Rhinos to gain him enough life to successfully stabilize. In game 3 I mulliganed to 5 but I was able to beat him down with a Foundry Street Denizen and 3 Valley Dashers after he milled a Drown in Sorrow with a Commune with the Gods.

Match 3: Monored vs Yisan Combo 2-0

This was an interesting deck to play against but it was ultimately too slow. The deck was aimed at trying to use Kiora's Follower and Prophet of Kruphix to untap Yisan, the Wanderer Bard to cheat out Arbor Colossus and Sagu Mauler at instant speed. However I easily dirurpted his combo with my burn package and he was unable to deploy enough creatures to hold back my Akroan Crusaders and Hordeling Outburst.

Match 4: Monored vs Monoblack Midrange 2-0

This was my friend's deck that I knew through and through as we had play-tested our decks together often. In game one he successfully managed to drop Whip of Erebos and started beating down with Master of the Feast. However he drew little board control that game and I eventually overpowered him with numbers (Helped by the extra card draw from the master.) Game 2 was a little closer as he managed use 2 Drown in Sorrows to great effect against me but I was able to eventually kill him with a few top-decked haste creatures and an Act of Treason that stole his Herald of Torment allowing me to outrace him as he slowly lost life to the Herald.

All in all I had a good day, and managed to pull 2 Mythics and 2 Fetches in my prize packs. Hopefully I will be able to steal a victory next FMN.

Rman92011, I have now stated in the description why I run the dasher (I should have done this earlier as a few people have questioned why I run it at my store.)

It's funny that your comments mention specifically that you DO NOT run Goblin Rabblemaster and you DO run Valley Dasher, because the only decks I've seen really succeed of this archetype that have Valley Dasher also have Goblin Rabblemaster. If it works, more power to you, but I agree with Rman92011 -- for the most part -- that you should maybe switch it out for a one drop. I would definitely pick Firedrinker Satyr over Satyr Hoplite because the latter tends to be a little slow. If your opponent has a lot of burn, however, I would side it out for some more burn or maybe a couple Coordinated Assault. I also think a one-of Arena Athlete could work well.
