So, this probably will never make the competitive scene, but here we go.
Way back in 2014, Gaven wrote an article called Order of the Phenax in which he created a deck that used
Hold the Gates
and Beck / Call to generate a lot of high toughness tokens to use Phenax, God of Deception to mill people and win the game.
Which was awesome! I played that for a while, and it was a lot of fun, and then the format evolved, and it just couldn't do enough...
And then, a year later, Assault Formation was published. Here was a way to just kill someone outta nowhere with less set up, and less colors... and I figured, why not try?
....
So the goal of this deck is to be the Best Beck / Call deck that is possible. My problem is I just am bad at making decks when the card pool starts to hit the thousands of cards, so I could really use some help!
This deck basically is divided into a few parts.
The Ramp
Llanowar Elves, Sylvan Caryatid, and Axebane Guardian forms the base of our mana acceleration, and allows us more access to our Gold Cards. Urban Evolution also allows us to add another land, but it's not really part of the ramp package.
Plan A
The first plan involves playing
Hold the Gates
to get a large toughness from our Guildgate Mana Base, and Assault Formation to attack for mega damage. Beck / Call generates the tokens needed for the win here, along with
Hornet Queen
.
Plan B
The second form of attack still relies on our token generators, but instead of relying on Assault Formation to provide the power, we use Champion of Lambholt instead to provide a large attacker that makes our tiny attackers impossible to block.
Token Generation
Our main means of generating Token Creatures are Beck/Call, and Hornet Queen. We also have a few copies of Parallel Lives to really gain a huge amount of card draw off the Beck. Alive / Well helps provide some life recovery as well as giving us a beefier token, and
Scion of Vitu-Ghazi
is an experiment to see if Populate is worth considering.
