More Changes | Primer Update —Sept. 2, 2018

Did more play-testing over the weekend. Added some low cmc, high-impact cards to help us set up our strategy early in the game. The said additions also helps us maintain out momentum throughout the game. One very notable change in the exclusion of Brago, King Eternal to make room for Leonin Relic-Warder. Although Brago is unarguably one of the best flicker engines available, it seemed underwhelming in the sense that it only works only when the game is going my way. It doesn't do much in helping me catch up after a slow start or bounce back from board wipes, slow starts, etc. I will also be updating the primer to reflect the slight change in the direction I am taking the deck. Anyways...

Kaya, Ghost Assassin -> Sea Gate Oracle

Chain of Smog -> Omenspeaker

Brago, King Eternal -> Leonin Relic-Warder - got LRW mainly because of the great interaction it will have with cards like Parallax Wave and Tangle Wire.

Thank you for the positive feedback. Both cards seem like logical additions. There are actually a lot of good cards which can still be added to the deck. The real problem lies in what cards to replace. Any suggestions?

Smokestack or fiend hunter maybe? They are arguably some of your weakest removal pieces. Smokestack takes a full turn cycle to do anything, and fiend hunter requires that you respond to his trigger to do real damage. Of the games I have played, Reflector Mage has been amazing, and usually eats removal because no one likes him. Very effective at keeping commander's off the field.

Agreed. I like Smokestacks because it hits all players which is what I usually aim for. Fiend Hunter is there because the combo player in me won’t shut up and keep whispering all these clunky combos.

I like the suggestions though. I could probably remove both cards to make room for Reflector Mage and Ixidron

Ixidron has done very well too. I play a weekly edh tournament with a lot of 1.5 and 2.0 decks. Cards that turn off or temporarily prevent problem commanders like gitrog and derevi have proven invaluable. Honestly, I need to get a Darksteel Mutation as well, as Ixidron, Imprison in the Moon, Reflector Mage, and Hostage Taker have allowed me to win a lot of games. Although in my meta, a lot of people base their deck around the commander and not the other way around, so take that with a grain of salt.

I agree. There's several directions you can take this, but largely depends on what 'style' you prefer and if you want to play to your meta. Or both.

Duplicant could be nasty as well.

Thank you for the inputs guys! I have managed to add some of them into the deck. I am still weighing on other cards like Hostage Taker, Duplicant, Gonti, etc.

I somehow feel the need for more draw or scry effects. Upon playtesting, I sometimes found it hard to access the deck’s stax pieces. Parallax Wave was one of the cards that really shined in the several games I played. I am thinking of other ways to sliw opponents down. Although I won roughly half of the games I played, there are still kinks that need to be ironed out. I am excited to test out the new additions and will keep you guys updated.

Feel free to share your own experiences here. I am always interested to hear how your respective decks are performing. Thanks again guys!

You know you could use a little bit of Venser, Shaper Savant and Spine of Ish Sah just to be that guy >:D

gdm1989 First off, thank you for the suggestions. I am not very fond of Spine. I feel the cost is too high cobsidering it only hits one target.

I think I could replace Reflector Mage with Venser though. Are their any other card/s in the deck which appear unnecessary to you?

You'll be surprised how fast spine will come out with blink decks since I used to use brago and blink decks

atm Ixidron is not needed I would use Resolute Archangel to make yourself semi-immortal

replace Pristine Talisman with Mana Web

there's this card I'm testing in my yuriko fairy (dark brago) deck it's called Gulf Squid

but so far it's looks fine. When I update my brago blink and yuriko bounce deck I'll let you know if I see something else :)

Oh and keep Reflector Mage in the deck as well trust me on this :)

Interesting suggestions. I was thinking of adding Gulf Squid a while back as getting to use old, obscure cards is something I enjoy.

I also like the Mana Web suggestion. It’s gonna make the Rishadan package a lot more effective. Time to look for slots.

Please don’t forget to upvote if you like the deck. :)
