A new era.... OATH UPDATE —Jan. 25, 2016
This is the Oath of the Gatewatch update (1.0). It wont change much... EXCEPT IT CHANGES ERRRYTHING! Thats right. What a great time to be a colorless player. In the past, Mono-Brown decks have been creeping around in dark corners of LGSs everywhere all over the planet and for years they were nothing but "interesting to look at" and "expensive, impressive but not strong enough imo" and in case of modern "dude you know cloudpost is banned and 12post dead?" (yes, made up quotes, no1 said that). BUT NOW withing a few months we got: instant spot removal, a colorless charm, barry's land (yes ill keep calling it that. its "barrys land" for like 2 decades; screw you "Wastes"!!!) -which will make it far easier and cheaper for ppl to start a colorless EDH deck- and last but not least a new Kozilek thats sooooo freaking blue i cant wrap my mind around it...  If you think hes just "ok" then you are probably a blue mage (gotcha!!) but think about it this way: until now colorless combo or aggro always had to race to win because we had to finish before Merciless Eviction or Austere Command (yeah darksteel forge yada yada yada, its still a huge threat) etc ... in other words: really fast. NOW we can counter a sorcery for only 2 mana AND we can use the new kozilek to do the same (and more ofc) fairly easy. All real artifact hate board wipes are cmc 5 or 6... colorless decks run many cards in that cmc range. And suddenly they arent as much of a thread anymore because we have answers! Yes only 2 out of 99 cards but still, 2 more than before. and often enough you can easily fetch them at instant speed. And thats another thing: I can only talk about my setup here so maybe other ppl have a different experience, but i had many situations where i had infinte mana and untap and a tutor but since i couldnt do anything relevant at instant speed I lost. A good example is Rout at instant speed after I animated my board to get a killswing. Now ill just lean back, tutor me some Warping Wail and say "NOPE" like every other control player. AWWW YEAH... ah and i added 2 wastes because Path and Ghostquarter and the likes will be less annoying <3

FAQ:  The "Basic-Land-Question" (because they are colorless permanents): "903.5d A card with a basic land type may be included in a Commander deck only if each color of mana it could produce is included in the commander’s color identity." With the new Wastes this question should not come up again ;)
Small BFZ Update I'm curious, have you ever played dragon age origins? Karn reminds me of a playable character in it.

Sanctum of ugin is great and i thought about playing it, but i dont really need to tutor a creature except a turn1 metalworker and that doesnt work ;)
...
i played like 3-5h dragon age and i never really got into it (because its single player i suppose; i prefer pen&paper; or mmo). but im interested in hat character. whats the name so i can read the lore <3

I created an account to say thanks for this deck list. I'm still new to Magic, but I knew I wanted to make a colorless deck. I built a version of this that left out a few of the more expensive cards, and had my first few games with it last night. I managed to win two of the three 4-player Free For All matches I played, and only lost the first due to my inexperience.
I subbed in Ugin's Nexus for one of the more expensive cards I chose not to buy. Someone chose to board wipe (except land) last night, forgetting I had Ugin's Nexus out. I still had a great mana base thanks to Scorched Ruins + a copied version w/Thespian's Stage, and a Deserted Temple. I was able to cast Akroma's Memorial and something else the first turn, then drew/casted/attacked with Kozilek the second. I managed to destroy everyone during my following turn thanks to the draw off of Kozliek. Definitely my favorite win of the evening.
Overall, this deck is a lot of fun and it is exactly what I was looking for.

well i really dont know yet. but its huge. i think 2-3 have to go in, no idea what to cut tho...

I run Karn myself, so I'm paying attention to what you do. Definitely need to run several basics, but I'm personally questioning the wisdom of running some of the standards, for instance Solemn Simulacrum. The deck already fits together pretty tightly, and I'm not sure there's enough potential for abuse in it.

yes you are right. i wouldnt play another creature in here just for 1 land and 1 draw. it was just meant as an example how barries land affects us. but i could imagine some1 buidling a massive copy and recursion deck with simulacrum as ramp and draw engine... but thats just not gonna be me ;)
when i look at barrys land i see something that would make me less attractive as a target for path, ghost quarter and similar effects. and in combination with that other spoiled card i can actually double the amount of instant spot removal in this deck /chucklesatownjoke

This deck is so awesome! I watched some of your gameplay - so sweet! So many combos! Definitely +1 from me. If you have the time, could you look at my deck and give me any tips? The description is still very much a work in progress though. :/Artifacts Galore!

Sorry if you addressed this already...
Your infinite combo with a mana rock and Rings of Brighthearth doesn't work, I don't think. Rings specifically says you may copy the ability, as long as it's not a mana ability. So isn't Basalt Monolith an invalid target for Rings of Brighthearth?
