The main idea behind this deck is to create an impressively quick mana ramp combo between Arbor Elf, Utopia Sprawl and Overgrowth. Then, using the mana generated this way, to play a bomb your opponent will struggle to deal with.
This deck is incredibly consistent, having either a Gaea's Revenge, Mistcutter Hydra or
Terra Stomper
out by turn three more often than not.
Fastest strategy
Using the strategy listed below, this deck can produce a 12/12 Mistcutter Hydra as early as turn three (13/13 if you draw another Forest).
Turn one:
- Play Forest.
- Cast Arbor Elf.
Turn two:
- Play Forest.
- Cast Utopia Sprawl enchanting untapped Forest.
- Tap enchanted Forest for 2 , untap it with Arbor Elf's ability for a total of 4 .
- Cast Overgrowth on same enchanted Forest.
- Cast Arbor Elf.
Turn three:
- Tap non enchanted Forest for 1 .
- Tap enchanted Forest for 4 , untap it with both Arbor Elf's ability for a total of 12 .
- Cast Mistcutter Hydra using all available mana.
Recommended hand
However, strategically speaking, taking a hand with the cards listed above wouldn't necessarily be the safest hand to take. If something were to happen to the Mistcutter Hyrdra, a kill spell for example, youd be top-decking until you bumped into one of the other larger creatures in your deck.
The opening hand I'd recommend you take would include: 2x Forest, 1x Arbor Elf, 1x Utopia Sprawl, 1x Overgrowth, 1x
Gaea's Revenge
and 1x Lead the Stampede.
This allows for you to play Gaea's Revenge on turn 3 (harder to remove from the field than Mistcutter Hydra) and still have Lead the Stampede to search for more creatures.
