Mana Dorks and Blade Splicer —July 11, 2016

I swaped Steward of Valeron for more Avacyn's Pilgrim and 2 Elvish Mystics. Even tough the Stewars applied some pressure and made mana, I think the one mana dorks allow some more explosive plays with earlier 3- and 4-drops.

Additionaly I swapped some Call of the Herd for Blade Splicer. Even tough the flashback is nice, the splicer bring more combat power to the field and populating firststrike golems ist really strong combat-wise.

Great idea, you might consider Wayfaring Temple. Cheap way to get a strong creature, and allows you to populate often. +1

I most definitely second adding Wayfaring Temple. Both it and Hanweir Militia Captain  Flip can get big pretty quick, especially with Hanweir's token generation. Also, Parallel Lives isn't a very budgety card, but for good reason. Plus, if it's already in play when you cast Second Harvest, you get to triple your tokens (which is awesome for Wayfaring Temple and Hanweir).

If you decide to go that route, maybe take out a few lands since you have 24 plus 4 Avacyn's Pilgrim? Scion isn't bad, but it seems a bit out of place. And Planeswalkers are certainly great, but I feel like Parallel Lives would work a little better (and is certainly cheaper than Gideon).

I do like this though! I recently started making a deck revolving around populate, but I found I preferred the raw token generation over populating. If you feel like looking at what I came up with, it's here, but no obligation. I should note that it's a prototype and I haven't actually made the deck (yet), while yours may be much more battle-tested. I'm definitely open to suggestions if you have any.

Growing Ranks is also a nice way to populate consistently.

Yeah I agree, Growing Ranks is pretty good. Some people don't like the CMC of 4, but mana shouldn't be too much of an issue when playing Green. Also, Roc Egg mand Hornet Nest might be nice for getting some flyers on the field.

Like what you got. There does seem to be an exuberant amount of mana available here, however. I do think some flyers are necessary for this build. Particularly Midnight Haunting. It does look like your deck is going big more than a spread. Not sure. I'd still greatly consider Haunting.

Thought it was cool you got Steward of Valeron here on the curve. Interesting addition.

If you are considering spreading the board some Gavony Township has shown to be the best card in G/W token deck. I'm going out on a limb and saying Gavony is possibly the main reason I'd play G/W.

Thanks everybody! Some very nice suggestion in there.

The think is: I already tested many of your suggestions and as of right now I prefere going big with wurms (so populate is at its strongest) rather then wide. I guess I'll post an alternative wide decklist soon, then you can all tell me which you think is better xD

Considering Growing Ranks and Wayfaring Temple: the worst matchups are those with a lot of removal or where I have to trade a lot. There might be times where I have zero tokens on the field and then these cards simply do nothing. Don't you agreee? Maybe I am just to negative xD

Yeah Worms are pretty good. I must admit, my Populate deck features wurms. Also the number of times Grove of the Guardian makes an appearance is amazing; such a cool card. Add Trostani, Selesnya's Voice or Wall of Reverence to the mix and things go well. Also, Asceticism is invaluable.

DRcadian - I'm not a fan of Wayfaring Temple and (to a lesser extent) Growing Ranks. Purely for the same words you used. Personally, I avoid using situational cards like these. Not that they don't work with the theme but because I end up burning them after a control match...

On higher note I'm looking at making a second version of G/W tokens. Featuring big rather than spread. The Timmy in me just can't say no to Grove of the Guardian.

Populating an 8/8 token just feels so good!

@codpieceofjustice: I have one trostani in my sideboard against anything where I loose life too quickly. Asceticism could be nice but is rather mana and money expensive. Kind of situational like Growing Ranks.

Yeah, I hate these decisions between fun/cool/parttime-awesome and solid/rational. But I guess you all know it: local meta gets better an better, everybody pimping their decks and somehow you want to keep competing xD

Anybody some sideboard suggestions? My local modern-meta is dominated by a jeskai control deck and a mono-white humans aggro deck. I'd love to hear your thoughts!
