Can You Pre-Order Cards?

Hey guys, every once in a while I hear somebody say to order a playset of a card before it comes out. I want to pre-order some cards but can't seem to find where to do it. Can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks!
Well, isn't it really dumb to preorder a card? I mean, most cards are really going to drop after a little while.... :D

Will the price of the cards go down after they are released? I figured the temur khan will just go up and up with time.

Well, as boosters gets opened, the supply will be a lot larger. Therefore the price will be lower. But some cards might go up a lot when people realize how good they are... :D
But I'm asking you guys, wether or not it's good to preorder! :D

it's good to preorder cards that will go up in price.
it's bad to preorder cards that are going to drop in price.

Usually it's not worth it.
In the case of Nissa, Worldwaker , Courser of Kruphix and Goblin Rabblemaster it was. There are always the exceptions.

Do you guys think it would be wise to pre order the temur khan?

Rasta_Viking29's examples are good ones. They're cards that weren't very well understood until after they were actually released, and then it was easy for everyone to see just how powerful they were. If there's a card out there that you think is misunderstood and therefore undervalued, it might be worth it to go for the preorder price.
Note that it can be very difficult to successfully speculate like this, especially with the massive amounts of debate and discussion that go on ahead of a set's release. My only "win" for something like this was Gifts Ungiven , and that was a looooong time ago. I've had many more "losses" since then.

Wait a minute, the Temur khan doesn't even really have a "price" yet, at least not beyond what I can see on eBay (buy-it-now ~$20). Maybe you should see what the preorder point actually is first.

I'll probably wait a bit. My speculation is that he'll become a modern staple for the sodeboard. Maybe.

In what kind of deck would he be a sideboard stable?

Yeah, he costs 5. You need to win the game if you cost 5 in modern, which the temur khan does not.

It's worth it to pre-order if you have a major event release weekend, like a SCG open. It's important to have them overnighted... Also, if you watch SCG and get into pre-ordering on release, they usually start out low and move it up after selling X amount (like 25 cards or so). So if you can get to them earlier you can get the cards cheaply. Cheaper than tcg/ebay, which most sellers and set prices based on scg after they settle.
Otherwise, wait till a week or so after the release and buy. Also, buy before the pt, cards that see play there jump immediately. If you order during the pt, there have been cases of orders cancelled while sellers pull stock and re-stock at higher prices. So be fast, quick and know who is who and what does what.

Yea I've had stuff cancelled cause it jumped in price :/
I pre-ordered Pain Seer for 20$ lol that was stupid and I've been far more hesitant of what I preorder.
Preordered a set of Windswept Heath though... Don't really care if the price goes up or down. 60$ for a fetch playset is always worth it. Gonna grab more fetches each paycheck lol

I would pre-order lands (in this case fetches) and planeswalkers, as generally they go up. It's kinda hit and miss on pretty much everything else unless it's a blatantly powerful card.

It's always a risk to pre-order because the fact is that most prices will go down.
That said, I won on a few from M15
Rabblemaster Then $.80 Now $9Scuttling Doom Engine Then $1.50 Now $4.50Chasm Skulker Then $.90 Now $3.80Polymorphist's Jest Then $1.25 Now $2.50
Lost on:
Waste Not Then $6.44 Now $4 (Sold at $5)Urborg Then $5.50 Now $4.50

I wouldn't call Urborg a loss. It's down now but it'll go up in the long run.
It was going for 40$ before the reprint. It made that jump in 1 year. it was at 12 before modern season...
September 10, 2014 10:48 a.m.
Urborg is going to rebound high.... I may go pick up some for 4 bucks.
I like looking for things that have some sort of past comparable. That Urborg for instance was a money card before the reprint. I preordered sets of Utter End and See the Unwritten for about 4-5 bucks a card. I figure Vindicate is a pretty good indication that Utter End has lots of potential in various formats and that's a $30 card. See the Unwritten was a bit more of a stretch but I can see it being a win-condition type bomb in a slower standard format, particularly with green doing well and having so much ramp... Plus it will be a big time EDH card. I don't think it will drop too much below 3 or 4 and I think it could rise towards 15 or 20.
I also grabbed a play set of Hardened Scales because of the amount of things using 1/1 counters (Skulker, hydras, heroic, abzan, monstrous....). I figure someone (hopefully me) is going to find a way to abuse a 1 drop like that.
Anyone eyeing some other cards that I'm overlooking?

I think all those are bad investments...
Unmake doesn't even see play. I can't imagine 4 drop removal be playable on anything but SB's. & what would even run Utter End ? Tokens? Esper Control? Maelstrom Pulse is cut back to 1 on most lists these days. a 4 drop removal spell is just not gonna happen.
Elspeth, Sun's Champion will probably jump in price now because she answers the whole ferocious power 4 or greater mechanic.

Well.... I'm looking at Rattleclaw Mystic . It's pretty low right now. This will be an expensive card I think :D Thought?
