Has anyone effectively used Glistening Oil

just wondering if anyone has built the bulk of a deck around Glistening Oil its a rare so you'd expect it to be good but its difficult to see, Carnifex Demon is a bit costly and working a Perilous Myr and Mortarpod combo is a bit long-winded... any ideas?

i'd give it a shot, but does'nt really that consistent. i think it would be more beatdown than infect, in which case youre better off not having it in in the first place

I always use it as an effective killspell, I think the best way to use it is in a sideboard against infect, use it on opponent's creatures.

First of all, it's not used to give creatures infect. Phyresis does that for you. It's used to kill opponent's creatures or to use with Carnifex demon. It could be used in a sac deck but there are better cards to do it with.

Use it to trigger Blowfly Infestation or Crumbling Ashes .
Use that alongside a Necroskitter .
I've taken three players' entire creature field with these kinds of combos. Massive creature hate. I also throw in Virulent Wound for backup and Kulrath Knight is excellent to have as well.

I was hoping for standard format ideas, I like the shadowmoor use of -1/-1 counters , but i just ordered a set of Glistening Oil hoping to use it with Mortarpod . costly idea, maybe in a R/B sac deck, but its pretty vague at the moment. and its pretty slow creature removal in standard, though consistent.

it's pritty good as a sideboard card against weenie decks to kill them off. failing that the only use I can see for it is to stick it on an Inferno Titan for lulz

It's not necessarily the case here, but Wizards has said in many articles (namely Maro's I think, but don't quote me) that they do have to make bad rares as part of the game. I don't know about Carnifex Demon costing too much though. He comes down the same turn as Grave Titan , and can lower all the titans down low enough that they'd die to him. He also flies and would be that much better with infect. That actually sounds really good now. Wow.

Glistening Oil has its uses against decks like Gobos as it will eliminate the goblins faster than they can kill you with infect and can be a backup when condition. I've used it before and it wasn't awful, but there are of course better options.
Carnifex Demon is great. Two of them on the field makes it so that you can continually put out -1/-1 counters, it's your own black sun's zenith with flying and stays on the field.

i hear innistrad will have an ability that lets a creature deal extra damage if blocked. i expect them to be weak creatures that die easily so a re-useable infector would be nice.

I have a modular/infect deck, and I use glistening oil to make them sickly (along with phyresis and tainted strike). Either the creature is getting +1/+1 counters put on it (from cards like Energy Chamber), or it dies and it's counters go on to another creature while glistening oil goes back in to my hand. I love modular.

@Sleazzo: -1/-1 counters negate +1/+1 counters and vica versa, they don't stack.

@Spoofed: ya.... and if you negate both effects, the creature stays the same. i don't see where there's any confusion here.

Mega hot in an enchant deck, featuring at least 2 of the 3 enchantresses. The return to hand feature on top of the low cost makes it exceptionally effective.

In an enchantress* deck. I put enchant, but that's vague.

I made the deck. Minus-One/Minus-One i think itll do good but it probably needs a lot more work.

I think that Glistening Oil could work great used on Mortivore alongside Szadek, Lord of Secrets .
I've used the pair in combination before which forced an opponent to block Mortivore , meanwhile Szadek, Lord of Secrets goes through unblocked but not doing damage, instead gaining power and also boosting the Mortivore .
I've had this pair up at +40-55/+40-55, so putting Glistening Oil on when they're already boosted way up could be a winning move.

Its a good kill spell that keeps coming back but if I were to use it offensively I might try a white black Aura deck maybe? Put that on a Kor Spiritdancer with a few auras on her and you've got a hell of a beater.
