Sydri vs Sharuum, Similarities and differences?

Commander Deck Help forum

I wanted to make a combo deck of Sydri, so i have been looking into some Sharuum decks and it made me think, what makes these decks different besides Sharuum's reanimator. I see alot of Sharuum decks using Time Sieve and Thopter Foundry, but none of the Sydri decks did. I'm basically asking what makes them different, playstyle wise. I could use any tips you have for Sydri's Playstyle. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.

Well it seems to me that sydri wants to be an agressive deck, but sharuum is a controll edh that looks to be the main difference. rsorry if ive typed something stupid im a slittle sleep deprived atm

Agressive in what way? Becauce from how i see it i need to flood the board but there is no way to get my stuff back. How would i accelerate my artifacts onto the board and have resiliency?

Sharuum the Hegemon tends to be hard infinite combo. Her + Time Sieve + Thopter Foundry and five extra mana (or an Ashnod's Altar) is an infinite combo in itself, and it's not hard in one of those decks to get that going even without Sharuum.

Sydri, Galvanic Genius can play the same tricks, but loses out since she herself doesn't go infinite with so many pieces of the deck. I have never played either, but am assuming that if someone is making a deck in those colors that uses infinite combos they will probably gravitate towards Sharuum naturally. I believe this is the most likely cause for the disparity you are seeing between the two.

Darksteel Forge is like an avacyn for artifacts, and you'd use mana rocks to punp yourself up with mana whilst using youre colors to do stuff, I honestly dont know to much im more of a sharuum person myself

I see then i might just abandon the idea then, because i use exclusively Kaalia and i dont wanna get kicked out of my group with a commander like Sharuum. I realize i dont have to but Sydri just doesnt feel right. Yet i still see hope in cards like Voltaic Construct, but the lack of resilience is definitely missing.

You CAN still build Sharuum fairly (whatever your playgroups definition of "fair" is), it's just that the Bitter Ordeal version is probably the most popular. She's a strong commander for sure, but doesn't instantly win the game unless you want to build her that way.

Heck, you could do voltron with her if you want. Just because what you want to build isn't "optimized" doesn't mean it's wrong!

If i were to build Sharuum combo would the deck work without Sharuum until i needed it or no? I guess what im asking is if shes essential or a compliment until the deck needs to go infinite?

I have never actually played her but I do believe she is ideally just a combo piece, so you wouldn't normally cast her until you are/are about to go off (e.g. you might cast her turn 4, then cast Sculpting Steel and Bitter Ordeal the following turn).

You can also go infinite without her, a la the old Sword of the Meek + Thopter Foundry + Time Sieve combo.

There are so many combos that you can use without sharuum I'm play a sydri deck now and yes sharuum is in there cause she is a compliment to any combo but not needed for most if them. Sydri has a lot of political usefulness, she basically says no to any equipment decks by only using one blue and you can always animate your stuff after wiping the board of creatures I find she is alot of fun. Just my two cents tho

Also add Krark-Clan Ironworks to the sword of the meek/thopter/time sieve combo to make infinite mana as well

Sydri isn't so much aggro as she is secret control. Mycosynth Lattice works very well with her

Sydri seems more defensive than Sharuum, one of her signature cards is Caltrops, I bet if you read her's and Caltrops's, you'll see why. ;)

The main thing I know about Sharuum is that her + Phyrexian Metamorph + Disciple of the Vault is an infinite life drain combo.

I happen to have a Sydri decklist, hmu if you want to see it. Mycosynth Lattice, another notable card of her's, isn't in there since I tried to build it in a budget constraint (with little success hahaha).
