FIRST FNM [3-1] —Feb. 10, 2012

FIRST FNM: I ended up going 3-1, which was pretty impressive to me, as I did not plan on it working that well. What I've learned;

  1. Falkenrath Aristocrat is possibly the best card in the deck. If you're looking to play tokens, this is more than enough of a reason to splash red.
  2. Falkenrath Torturer sucks. It was mostly used for chump blocking.
  3. Thraben Doomsayer was very slow, but possibly good if Champion of the Perish/Falkenrath Aristocrat is out.
  4. Ravenous Demon  Flip never saw play. You can interpret this however you want.
  5. Hero of Bladehold was also just as great as Falkenrath Aristocrat.
  6. Increasing Devotion was also a very good card. Whenever it was played, either that turn/next was a win. Never managed to flashback.
  7. Intangible Virtue/Honor of the Pure made a very intimidating duo if both were on the battlefield by turn 3.
  8. Vault of the Archangel is a priceless land. At its worst, it is used as a defensive stance/staller. Best case is a wincon.

I also never sideboarded, as I didn't have it finished before FNM started. I'm still looking for some CC for mana fixing.

I dont understand the ravenous demon or the fakenrath torturer, i would swap them out for as many bloodline keeper as well an some doomed travelers, id also swap break of day and 2 increasing devotion for 2 oblivion rings and 3 of lingering souls and 3 midnight haunting, i know it doesnt have flashback but it still can be played at the end of your opponents turn so you can have a couple extra swingers, i would also consider dropping some of the boost enchantments and gather the townsfolk, for possibly elesh norn or some black control just my take on it

The idea of the Ravenous Demon/Falkenrath Torturer is that they both get an edge when humans are sacrificed. If I decided to use Bloodline Keepers, I'd need to use more vampire-token generators than just that and Sorin.

What about adding some control, like Doom BladeMTG Card: Doom Blade and Black Sun's ZenithMTG Card: Black Sun's Zenith. Maybe Tribute to HungerMTG Card: Tribute to Hunger or Geth's VerdictMTG Card: Geth's Verdict?

Personal SanctuaryMTG Card: Personal Sanctuary will help you keep that demon in check and save you dudes .

Midnight HauntingMTG Card: Midnight Haunting might be good to include. It doesn't have the flashback that Lingering SoulsMTG Card: Lingering Souls has but it can also be cast at instant speed.
