3-1 FNM: So close... —Aug. 12, 2016

The deck performed quite well again tonight, cutting though most opposition. A small problem with flooding in the first match, but 23 lands feels too low.

The Matches

1-2 against Bant Company. A good deck with a good player. I won game 1 pretty easily if I recall correctly. I lost game 2 to a flood and I kept a very poor hand game 3.

2-0 against RB vampires. The deck was aggressive, but tempo usually wins out against aggressive decks, which happened here. I actually won game 2 with a mull to 4 and 5 lands in my hand when I won.

2-0 against Mono-white Angel/Humans. I won game 1 to a misplay on his part (he blocked Selfless Spirit with Gisela, the Broken Blade  Meld, which I proceeded to sacrifice to negate the life gain. Game 2 went quite well, though I don't recall much of it.

2-0 against Bant Spirits. A near mirror with Collected Company and Tamiyo, Field Researcher. I won game one through a well timed Always Watching, which allowed me to break the mirror effect. In game 2 happened the best play of the night, when I Emerged a Elder Deep-Fiend from a Rattlechains afer he had tapped it and Archangel Avacyn  Flip, allowing my other Rattlechains to kill Tamiyo and triggering Avacyn's flip, killing his Spell Queller and Mausoleum Wanderer.

Lessons

Elder Deep-Fiend is awesome and I'll probably move them to the main deck, removing the 3rd Essence Flux and Ojutai's Command. Always Watching was great as well, protecting my creatures red removal and allowing me to push through defenders in the mirror.

Adding a 3rd Gideon, Ally of Zendikar and 4th Negate against control in the sideboard.
