Love the deck!

Aside from Old-Growth Dryads, have you considered Field of Ruin (also coming out of Ixalan)?

You seem to justify a lot of things as too big and therefore scary, like Dryads, Tempting Wurm, etc, BUT you can always just attack someone and give them 3 or 5 or 6 or however many hippos needed to kill it.

Yeah RazortoothMtg, but to what end other than the lolz.

Many games I don't even bring the purple hippo out. It's often the case that I have better and more fun things to do since I'm giving myself, along with everyone else at the table, lots of card draw from this deck.

How about Arcane Melee? Everyone wins when your group hugs cost less and thier stuff costs less! Nice idea and the commander is the BEST! Hippos for the win! Or... not, because you are not trying to win, so hippos for the lose?...-Jaf

Did you know that Phelddagrif is an anigram of PHD Garfield

Thanks for the comments, guys.

I'm not too sure about Arcane Melee, Jafjaf5, it seems that 5 mana is a lot to pay for a card that mostly helps blue players do their thing.

Blue players doing their thing.

I had heard about the Phelddagrif anagram of Richard Garfield, Ph.D., but I hadn't thought about it in a good while. Thanks for the reminder, DRACULA150704.

Yeah I know, but it gave me a chance to link that cool Unhinged card, so I did it.

So in other words, you job is to get second place. A friend of mine ran a deck like this, was a lot of fun. +1

This deck is as close as it comes to being the DM in a game of Magic. Looks fun!

This is the coolest deck I've seen in a long time. I was beginning to grow bored with edh as a format, but you've given me a chuckle and a deck to build. Thank you, sir.

This is very similar to my EDH FREE HUG Deck. I added Red in it. Kynaios and Tiro of Meletis is the commander for it. I built it awhile ago and it is my baby. I will upload it today so everyone can see it.

Have you considered throwing Ghirapur Orrery in there? If you're goal is to enable and help other players, I would think it could help a lot!

This is a really cool deck. I can certainly see it being a lot of fun to play.

matchgrizzle He covered that already. He's giving everybody enough card draw that the card draw effect will never trigger, and the land effect just isn't enough for that much mana.

Thanks for the positive comments, HeadinPants, Soulus101, brian.olson542 and matchgrizzle.

I didn't really consider changing over to Kynaios and Tiro of Meletis when that set came out, Ancaladar12. It would take a lot for me to give up my big purple flying hippo general.

Yeah matchgrizzle, at first blush Ghirapur Orrery looks tailor made for this deck, but as NimbusNobody pointed out, I'm giving out insane amounts of card draw with this deck so I doubt the second ability would ever come into play, which just leaves the first ability. 4 mana just seems a little steep.

I like it. Too often we are worried about how fast we can win or how much overkill damage we can do or how much chaos we can cause or how complex of a combo we can pull off and forget about just enjoying the game.

The entire premise of this deck, especially with that Hippo at the helm, makes me happy.

I guess the only thing I don't care for is the name. Shouldn't it be "Quick, Hug the Hippo!" instead of kill it? The idea is to keep the wonderfully generous Hippo alive, not destroy it right?

Other than that, no complaints. Off the top of my head I can't really think of any more effects that add to what you've got going on. They are all already in there :)

Thanks for the comment, Hobbez9186.

As for naming the deck, it was all very tongue-in-cheek. Obviously no one would want to hurt the great flying purple one.

I wish that his lil bro Questing Phelddagrif was legendary.

I love seeing Phelddagrif as a commander, since I have a commander on him. Much better and funnier then Kynaios and Tiro of Meletis. What I missed in your Phelddagrif is a win condition. How do you win? With my Phelddagrif, I win with commander damage. I wait until there is only one player left, then attacking him on my Phelddagrif, which immediately becomes trampled and flying. I suggest you to focus on that a beet. things like Evolutionary Escalation and Citadel Siege that are both serving the grouphug defensive theme of the deck and increasing your commander's power will be perfect.Plus, you should try some of the attack preventive cards in this deck. Ghostly Prison, Propaganda, Sphere of Safety and of course, Blazing Archon, will be perfect.Good luck!

By the way, if you wan't a different kind of win condition, try Approach of the Second Sun or Felidar Sovereign. Both great.

nav566 He doesn't win; he's mentioned before that winning is not his goal with this deck.

October 25, 2017 11:42 a.m.

nav566 says... #23

So You're playing a whole game so other people will be able to win easier? You should at least have some way to win. You can keep the grouphug element without having to play this deck over and over with no option of winning.

Zidantur says... #24

If your goal isn't to win, then you don't have the need to win. I think that's the point :p Besides, as soon as you win, people will remember that for the next time.
