After pulling Lukka, Snapdax, Dirge Bat, and Cubwarden in a series of sealed events for Ikoria on MTGA I wanted to build a deck around these cards. Originally featuring more aggressive removal on the form of Zagoth Mamba, and a split between Heartless Act (mostly to help clear Planeswalkers at instant speed but also for the counterless removal) and Murder. The deck worked fairly well. Then I watched a video by Absurd Heroine she called Mardu Mutate and I ended up trimming my list. I pulled the Zagoth Mambas for Dreadhorde Butchers, a card I hadn't thought to include in the deck, I went full in with Lukka (my original list only had 2 of him in it), and I dropped something else in favor of the Marauding Raptors Absurd Heroine put in her deck. While Absurd's deck works well and is pretty damn good, I thought the Marauding Raptors were junk. They ended up costing me more then they benefited me in the late game, and in the early game they made my creatures vulnerable to Shock and other cheap red removal spells. Not to mention, if played on curve kill your Healing Pidgeons and Dreadhorde Butchers. That's when I swapped out the Marauding Raptors for Tin Street Dodgers. Dodger made my Snapdax much snappier making for more productive attack phases. Later when I figured out you could cheat the Legendary rule by mutating a Cubwarden on top of Snapdax, Dodger solidified itself forever to be included in any mutate deck of mine containing red cards (of which there are no others at this time). My pre-tuned list and Absurd Heroine's list were nearly identical before I watched her video on YouTube. So much so that it was surprising to me that both of us hit on the same basic soil. Any ideas or suggestions are welcome!
