FNM #2 —Feb. 9, 2013

----- RECORD FOR THE NIGHT -----

----- 0 wins, 4 losses, 0 ties -----

So this was an ouch. Like a huge ouch. Good learning experience though, and my shop is great, which means people win without being douches about it. Also I realize what I need to do to tweak this deck and (hopefully) make it work.

:: Round 1 :: lost 0-2, against RW tokens. Game 1, I got mana flooded, it was Hellrider and 2 goblin tokens, and I was dead in 3 turns. Game 2, it was more of the same, only this time I was mana screwed, and I couldn't clear his board. He played me another game for fun, and while I did a bit of removal, it wasn't enough. With all of his things hasted and burning and such.

:: Round 2 :: lost 0-2, against esper control. Game 1, he laid Supreme Verdict on my Deathrite, and I was done, with no creatures and no answers for his sorceries. He killed me with a Piked Augur of Bolas, swing for seventeen?? Game 2, we drew it out long enough, but I lack powerful spells in endgame. He did Forbidden Alchemy about 3 times to make his graveyard huge, swing for seventeen again :D

:: Round 3 :: lost 0-2, against something. I can't remember. How did I die? Fast. I think.

:: Round 4 :: lost 0-2, against Golgari -- Game 1 he got Primordial Hydra up to a ridiculous number of counters (ninety-six!!!) while I kept drawing land after land after land. Game 2, he had a whole bunch of haste Dreg Mangler, and I think he had a Lotleth Troll. I did enough removal and Fog about 3 times, but he scavenged for the win.

DECK CHANGES: +2 Duress, +3 Snapcaster Mage, -2 Forced Adaptation, +4 Watery Gravefoil

I will say my favorite moment of the night was casting a Duress and then snapping it back to make my opponent discard a Tamiyo and a Sorin. Did not know until tonight that Planeswalker counts as a non-land, non-creature card. EXCELLENT.

Also Vos_Is_Boss I'm going to ask JaxRoto for those Abrupt Decays BECAUSE I WANT THEM. WILL OFFER THE WORLD. No actually the shop still does not have them and I'm getting impatient

Bubbafuzz has the list of who is borrowing what. I'll have to double check to see what i am actually borrowing.

Well, looking at your deck, and casting costs.. your sources are split about 45 - 35 - 20. So, by looking at that, we can begin to determine what mana fluctuation would be the most efficient for your deck. Depending on the number of spells you own as well as the colors they need, this analysis should help you understand what to try.

9 black sources - 3 spells

21 green sources - 8 spells

16 blue sources - 6 spells

So, eyeballing it...

45% - Green

35% - Blue

20% - Black

Right now, your mana is...

8 Black sources

14 Green sources

13 Blue sources

This isnt a bad split... but you can add even more by changing the following...

-2 Forest

-3 Island

+1 Breeding Pool

+2 Overgrown Tomb

+1 Hinterland Harbor

+1 Swamp

Your mana base now becomes...

11 Black

16 Green

12 Blue

Went from 35 sources to 39 sources just by adding some duals.
