Big creatures love the forest —April 9, 2014

After receiving some amazing help from all who have commented i have finally started to make some changes to my deck. it is no longer a mid range deck, but is now a deck that has a strong early game, but has the mana ramp to support the new Colossus of Akros i put in, along with the polukornos, etc. As Dr.Woodenstein has said in the comments, I have a bunch of mana that i could get out on the board, but is it really worth it to be using it on smaller creatures when i could be getting out bigger and better creatures? I agreed with this statement so i made the changes to fulfill this.

The question of whether to add Garruk is still on my mind, and i still would like some help with my sideboard.

I might remove Swordwise Centaur , and possibly add instead Reverent Hunter . Also, mainboarding 2x-4x Garruk, Caller of Beasts might be a good idea, he's too good to pass up, particularly in a deck consisting of just dudes. Also, definitely add 4x Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx , remove 4x Forest , as with a good amount of devotion and ramp and only 20 land, it might be a good idea to add a way of being able to just dump mana into something like Mistcutter Hydra .

Cool deck tho!

Im going to get Garruk, Caller of Beasts pretty soon :D. What you said about pumping up Mistcutter Hydra is something i have been thinking about lately. The synergy there would be really good with the Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx . Ive not really thought about Reverent Hunter .... Now that i think about it though...many games i play against my friends end up with me getting many creatures on the board, so it would be really really good.

Thank you for the suggestions!

With all the mana production you might want to add in some more hydras such as Kalonian Hydra and Nylea's Disciple for some devotion based life gain.

You are going to be destroyed by flying creature decks as you have no answer to flying.

You might want some protection there as well in the form of Ranger's Guile protect yourself with some Fog in early game.

Its a good start to a deck but it does need some thought into other decks that you will be playing against.

If you like the value of Kalonian Tusker maybe try Burning-Tree Emissary

I agree that Garruk, Caller of Beasts is a must, probably as a 4-of. Also, you probably want about 22 lands, and should have 2-4 Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx among them. If you do add Nykthos, you'll definitely want Burning-Tree Emissary . Hunter's Prowess is a good way to get one more form trample and card advantage. Finally, Boon Satyr is a great option in these decks.

I would remove all of the Centaurs, Vulpine Goliath, and a couple Karametra's Acolytes

@MadScientist

I really like the idea of the devotion life gain. Ill definitely consider adding it. Kalonian Hydra is definitely a really good card. Ive been trying to get some for the past few weeks to add to my deck. On the subject of devotion life gain i just thought of a really good combo. So imagine i play Nylea's Disciple , and the play something like Voracious Wurm . i could easily have a 8/8, or bigger, for 6 mana, and i would have gained a lot of life.

I realized my weakness in the air, which is why i made an anti air sideboard. Im not really sure what to add to the main deck which can handle flying without being a sideboarded card. If you have any off the top of your head i would really like some help with this.

I have actually been hunting down a couple of Fog lately. Ive been wanting to try it in my deck.

Thanks for your suggestions!!

For flying removal there are some simple creature cards that can be really helpfull

Nessian Asp - has reach to catch flying and can go monstrous, with your mana generation that could be seriously powerful.

Deadly Recluse - low cmc deathtouch/reach this little guy can be so annoying as it will stall a board with a giant flyer on it as the opponent does not want to lose there 5/5 to little weenie.

If you could work them into the mainboard you would have flying protection.

I agree that Garruk is a really important card for my deck. I have been trying to get my hands on him for some time now.

Why do you think i should have 22 lands? I agree with adding Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx . I have also been trying to get my hands on a couple of these as well. Burning-Tree Emissary seems pretty good.

When i first started construction of this deck i have wanted Hunter's Prowess . I am getting them really soon :D

I used to think that Bestow creatures were bad, but the way this deck has evolved, it has made me think differently about having cards like Boon Satyr .

The only reason i have Vulpine Goliath was because it was a big drop that could dish out some damage, i was eventually going to take it out. Ill have to give some thought about removing some Karametra's Acolyte . Since i dont have any Nykthos's i kind of depend on it for my massive amounts of mana. When i do get some Nykthos's i will probably remove some of them, but for right now im going to keep them in.

Thanks for your suggestions!!
