New Changes! —July 27, 2015

Exchanged the 4x Aether Vial for two more Goblin Piledriver and two Foundry Street Denizen due to a bunch of experienced players telling me that AEther vial isn't worth it for Modern Goblins.

Added in one more Cavern of Souls to counter the counters :)

Deflecting Palm in your face, easy win for me.+ Impossible starting hand. I did 20 playtests, never got me all the cards I needed for the combo.

Although the idea is very funny and the deck makes for a very good goblin deck.+1 from me for the overall good performance of the deck.

Haha yeah, it's not easy to get to the combo, ------ but if it happens, it's so surprising. Although that doesn't happen often at all, there have been times I've had 100s of damage with trample and first strike from Legion Loyalist on turn 4. I believe the combat damage goes through before the effect of Deflecting Palm, so you'd die before me if I was still attacking for the other x amount of damage haha. Thanks a lot for the upvote and comment!! :D

Casual... Competitive. You are breaking reality over here.

Hahah Kjartan it was initially a casual deck that I made to play with friends making them flip tables against waves of goblins, at that point it certainly wasn't close to the competitive level it is today. That is the story behind both tags, but I mean, I guess technically speaking it can be used for fun casual play and also transitioned into competitive play. :D

burn is your worst match up. probably ok against control all though how do you deal with a turn 2 4/5, with lightning bolts and Kolaghans command, or anger/pyroclasm/volcanic fallout?

benelas16 I find competing with burn generally isn't too big of a problem. In this deck there is certainly a lot of burn to go around, and if you find that they're going to fast for you to keep up, you can either add in Dragon's Claw, Vexing Devil if you need it a bit faster, and Goblin King especially against red decks. In burn matchups, that is where Tuktuk the Explorer is in his prime, send him out, attack, then goblin grenade him for a lot of damage which also creates a 5/5 that is still effected by everything goblin. The small creature wipes are certainly able to slow this deck down, without doubt, but hopefully your hand consists of goblins that will achieve more than the toughness of 3, for example Goblin Chieftain + Goblin Guide , Krenko, Mob Boss.

If you have any suggestions, there are definitely things that can probably be changed for the better! :) (I'm thinking of siding Blood Moon, but I'm not sure if it's too slow for this deck really. Any thoughts on that would be appreciated as well)

I think your deck description is messed up, so you might want to fix it, even though I understood what you were trying to say. Still, a +1 for me.

Thanks a lot SirFowler! I do definitely notice some price changes in the cards like Goblin Guide and AEther Vial that must be addressed. But is there any others that I may have missed? Thanks!

Well, I have a couple of suggestions for the deck. Since you have the Instigator, why not add cards like Mogg War Marshal and/or Siege-Gang Commander? That way turn 3 could be more devastating when you hit with the second strike and cheat out Krenko.

Also, in the "Turn 3 win example", you forgot the 2 brackets after the Goblin Guide. Idk, I'm just a nitpicker.

SirFowler I was noticing that error there and it actually is fully bracketed, I moved it around, took it out of the + and made it solo but it's bugged and it won't work :P

As for the deck in general, I don't want to only rely on Warren Instigator, so I don't want high cmc creatures like Siege-Gang Commander. Warren is very susceptible to people wanting him dead, therefore I can't rely on him to get everything out some of the time. With things like Mogg War Marshal and other token generating goblin spells, it's not that they're bad, but I'd have to remove stronger more prominent in-game creatures such as Goblin Rabblemaster, Legion Loyalist, and Goblin Guide which I find personally are more bang for their buck in the long run.

There are definitely ways to make this more damage on turn 4 by something as simple as using Foundry Street Denizen instead of Goblin Guide, but overall I wouldn't switch Goblin Guide with Foundry Street Denizen :)

Thanks a lot for the comment, and if you have any other suggestions or possible improvements, definitely don't hesitate to comment! :D

I completely understand. What are your thoughts on the new Goblin Glory Chaser? I feel it's pretty strong, even though it does take an extra turn just to get renowned. Idk, I'm not much of a modern player, so I might not be the best at suggestions.

I'm not a big Modern player either, I'm still working on constructing this deck. I have the majority of the cards, I hope to complete within the next couple of weeks which would be great. As it says there, this is my very first modern deck and I'm very happy with how it turned out :) I used it in proxies just mainly kitchen table style, so I can't go around saying I know a whole lot about this format either haha. Goblin Glory Chaser is definitely a good one drop for a budget version of this deck. It is better suited if you're trying to replace something until you get it. I personally don't like the fact that you'll send it out, end turn, attack for one, end turn, then on your third turn you'll have a 2/2 with menace. It seems a little bit too slow for a modern Goblin deck, but it could definitely synergize with a different budget option.

I'm tempted to make a budget version of this deck roughly around $50 just to see how it turns out..

Thanks a lot!

SirFowler, while I respect your modern capabilities, I must sumon the ultimate magician on this, NoviceMagician. Unless of course he is uncapitated and you are his champion xD. Novice magician! You have been summoned! ( also bring the elderberries, ok?) while I love den gablins ( my brother calls them that) I would suggest something such as an Obelisk of Urd (though I do understand that it would slow you down) to prevent against boardwipes such as bile blight. Now, if you want good solid early hitters, you can add Mardu Scout. With the guide it's 5 damage turn 2. Now, modern is faster then standard, so that is my suggestion.

This has been my suggestion, I shall now go kill spainyards and Giants and really smart people. The smart people shall be killed with iodine. Good day.

Obelisk of Urd is definitely something I've been considering. That and Door of Destinies seem to be really good artifact options for this deck that can help me out for any board wipe by damage and not destroy. I really just don't know what to trade out for it so far. I haven't really seen my personal meta, so it may be unnecessary, but on the other hand it may be better. I definitely want to playtest them to see if they can better replace something like Dragon's Claw Mardu Scout is definitely another budget option, but I don't feel as if it'll hold its own against the stronger options I have in this deck right now :)

Thanks a lot! :)

This is a good deck, although I'm not really good at building red decks, but I'm okay, I'm building a red and black deck. But the main deck I use for tournaments is abzan modern, and I have a combo in my deck.

Death's shadow is a 13/13 and only costs 1 black mana and he gets -X/-X and X is my life total, I would discard that on my first turn. And put down Varolz, the Scar-Striped. Each creature card in my graveyard in my graveyard has scavenge and the scavenge cost is equal to the death's shadow mana cost, so I can exile Death's shadow and either put +13/+13 on Varolz, the Scar-Striped. Or I can put +13/+13 on a creature like Siege Rhino if the opponet doesn't have a creature on the battlefield. I would put it on Varolz, the Scar-Striped if Siege Rhino isn't on the field.

Thanks BobbyMega, I tried my best to make this good :D! My brother plays a very similar deck to what you just said, except it's for Tiny Leaders. It's a lot of fun, and if left on its own for even a turn it's generally game. Definitely a good and fun idea!

If they used Deflecting Palm on your first strike damage they could win before you do...

Seems like a good deck though, +1

True DaftVader, I just have to hope it doesn't come to that haha! Thanks a lot, I appreciate it!
