This looks like a good start! I think to really get Lathiel working, you'll want cards that gain you life in huge chunks - some good, cheap options include Ordeal of Heliod, Life Goes On and Feudkiller's Verdict. Cards that do nothing but gain a little bit of life at a time, such as Ajani's Mantra or Marble Chalice, build up an advantage over a long time but aren't quite as flashy. Likewise, enchantments just meant to make creatures bigger - that is, Vinecraft, Siegecraft and Castle - are somewhat redundant, as you can expect to make creatures bigger by virtue of gaining life!

The other key element to Lathiel is that you're accruing +1/+1 counters, so creatures like Conclave Mentor, Abzan Falconer and Abzan Battle Priest will capitalize on that fact. Having access to lifelink is probably key, since it will essentially allow your creatures to double in size each turn. Other good ways to ensure that include Loxodon Warhammer, Behemoth Sledge Vitality Hunter. Hopefully some of these pointers help give you a leg up!

Tylord2894 on Constructive Criticism

Hiya,

Ok, I'll post my card suggestions over on your decklist, but I'll put my critiques here. Alright, let's get into it.

First off, I want to address the subject of power level. Decks that would be classified at a 7-8 on a power scale are usually able to consistently be able to win or lock down the board on or by turn 6 or 7. Now, this might not line up to how your meta works, and that's ok; however, if you were to take this to any random game shop and say, "this deck is a 7 or 8," you would be met with decks that can consistently win by turn 6.

After looking through your decklist, it would seem that much of your deck is looking to make Kathril into a massive and hard-to-kill threat. If you're looking to make a higher power deck, many of these cards are going to weigh you down considerably (like Vitality Hunter and Slippery Bogbonder). Moreover, I think one of the biggest downsides to Kathril is that they lure you into building around them while not giving you any advantage nor a path to victory.

Based on what is currently in your deck, I don't see how this will be a high power deck, but there are some good bones. Let's talk about what makes a high-power deck work. Most decks that are in that power range have a combo that will end the game or lock down the board or be filled with very efficient creatures that can blitz your opponents as well as efficient ramp, card draw, removal spells, and tutors. I see that you have a couple of good tutors, but the rest could use some work.

Now, we can talk about how to transition into a higher power deck. First off, you're lucky because graveyard decks are very strong. There are a lot of combos that can be pulled off from the graveyard. I think the best way to power up this deck is by focusing on one or two of those combos and have Kathril as a backup wincon. If this doesn't sound like your cup of tea, that's ok. Not every commander is meant to be a high power command. The important part it to build a deck that you find enjoyable to play. There is always a meta that you can play in.

Once we get on the same page of where to go with the deck, we can talk about specific cards.

Best!!
