Looking ahead to October (Mono-Green Stompy)

Standard Deck Help forum

Good afternoon, everyone.

As stated in the title, I'm looking ahead to what modifications my mono-green stompy deck will have to make. Obviously there should be something good in the new set when it rotates in, but I can make room for whatever that might be when the time comes.

I was primarily considering swapping out the cards that I lose (2x Rhonas the Indomitable, 2x Heart of Kiran and 4x Rhonas's Last Stand) with 2x Wayward Swordtooth, 3x Jadelight Ranger and 3x Merfolk Branchwalker, with the reasoning that while it might not be be quite as fast out of the gate, it should help me filter my deck to make it more efficient.

I would be interested in hearing the thoughts of others on that in particular, as well as any other substitutions that I should seriously consider. Thanks in advance for responding.

Jadelight is very good I can't see a world in which you play wayward over jadelight I would cut one, also I think the fight spells are not really needed, I would use vinemare instead, I can't really think of a card you would absolutely need to fight except for maybe something like hostage taker which is would be why you would play Vinemare, maybe you could play some in the sideboard but they will slow you down main board.

I see this kind of thing get asked a LOT just prior to rotation.

Now is the not really the time to adjust your deck.

Wait until AFTER the next set has been spoiled before you do that.

Only then will you see what the best cards in will be.

Argy, obviously you are correct, but I just can't help but think ahead.

Bennett_Stokes, that's an interesting thought. I've always gotten good use out of the fight spells before, to clear out blockers and such. They've proven especially useful in mirror matches. One option I've been considering is putting in 3x Drover of the Mighty and 3x Fling along with a set of Rootbound Crag in order to up the aggressiveness and get more use out of cards like Wayward Swordtooth. What do you think about that?

Goreclaw, Terror of Qal Sisma and Gigantosaurus I see little reason not to include here. Jadelight Ranger and even Merfolk Branchwalker should be strongly considered as well. Runic Armasaur, at the very least, should absolutely be in your sideboard. It shuts down certain strategies and has dinosynergy; no brainer.

Hungering Hydra is my card suggestion that see/expect anyone to mention. It's arguably the best GX cost hydra they've printed so far, and it's going completely under the radar, likely because it's "another hydra"
