Goblin Lackey/Guide/Matron Reprint?

I think now that we're seeing the piledriver back in action we may see these in the near future. Thoughts?

How many of those are on the Reserved list? That could answer part of your question, at least.

Goblin Lackey is way too strong for a reprint. Goblin Guide could be a good reprint, but it's about the same power level as Lightning Bolt and it hasn't got reprinted so I wouldn't bet on it. And Goblin Matron is just as unlikely as Goblin Lackey as WotC has toned down tutoring effects, so I wouldn't expect a reprint there either.

Also, I should specify that I'm talking about Standard reprints. Secondary products aren't accounted for in that.

@ canterlotguardian answer: none of them

thats why i find it possible

JWiley129 ..i would have thought the same, but then here's the piledriver in the origins set. IMO, better than all three of those except maybe the lackey

July 4, 2015 9:40 p.m.

Oh. Really? I would have thought at least one of them would be on there. All three are insanely powerful. But yeah, you have to consider if they get reprinted, they would have to be Standard/Modern legal, and all three are capable of being format-warping by themselves. Together? Yeah, I don't see it happening.

I am praying that one of them, and hopefully only one sees a reprint in order to bring back mono red gobs in standard. But yes I am equally surprised that they are not reserved

Well, there are no more cards to be spoiled in Origins, so any more Goblins will be in BFZ. But that will miss the "Summer of Goblins" that is Goblin Piledriver + Goblin Rabblemaster . However, as I said, I doubt any of them will get reprinted. The most likely of the three would be Goblin Guide.

So tell me, how much fun would it be to see T1: Goblin Guide; T2: Goblin Piledriver; T3: Goblin Rabblemaster? Not very fun for Control decks, especially with no 4-mana unconditional wraths. (Yes, I know Languish kills all of them, but it doesn't count.)

July 4, 2015 9:49 p.m.

I think that would be pretty much awesome. On a side note- i tend to think that languish is a little overkill for standard. (JUST STANDARD). It's practically damnation but will handle all of the indestructible white weenies. Not to mention its half colorless casting cost.

July 4, 2015 9:55 p.m.

I think that was Wizards saying "We won't be reprinting Damnation any time soon, but here's something that's literally almost just as good- better, in most cases!"

July 4, 2015 9:57 p.m.

i agree.

Bottom line, if that was a standard deck that's 12 Damage by Turn 3. That is WAY too good for Standard. Unanswered you're essentially dead.

just for laughs let thrown in a few copies of Goblin Grenade..

canterlotguardian languish is never better than damnation unless youre trying to kill a monstrous fleecemane lion or something silly like that.

I don't expect a reprint of any of those cards in standard. I think Goblin Guide will get a reprint in MM3, if they do that, but besides that they can't put cards like that into Modern. And I don't expect any of them in the reserve list, I think all of them have been reprinted past the point of when they implemented it. Also, while powerful, it is not a reason to put them in the reserve list. That's more the legacy and vintage guys who spend a lot of money on cards.

Well with Foundry Street Denizen and the new Goblin Glory Chaser still around, the summer of goblins is super viable and still has a sweet turn one play.

T1: Foundry Street Denizen

T2: Goblin Piledriver, Trigger on the denizen, Swing for 2 (Total damage 2)

T3: Goblin Rabblemaster pre combat, rabble makes a goblin token, two triggers on the denizen, piledriver gets +4/+0, Swing for 9 (Total damage 11)

T4: Rabble makes a goblin token, trigger on the denizen, piledriver gets +8/+0, Rabble gets +4/+0, Swing with the team for 19 (Total damage, way too much)

That's freaking amazing. Who needs Goblin Guide, Goblin Matron or Goblin Lackey? XD

EmblemMan, Languish can frequently be better than Damnation. If I've got a Siege Rhino or Tasigur, the Golden Fang on the board, I'd much rather follow up with a Languish - wipes your side and keeps my threats.

Of them, I think Goblin Guide is the most likely reprint based solely on the fact that Battle for Zendikar is coming. Do I think he'll definitely be reprinted? No. But... Would I be surprised if he was reprinted in BfZ. Also no.

Goblin Matron seems like it could reasonably see a reprint. It is a tutoring effect for 3 that has a more narrow scope than Heliod's Pilgrim. I think it only seems so powerful in legacy because of the mass toolbox of goblins that modern truly lacks.

I think they will let modern sit and see what Goblin Piledriver does before any other big reprints.
