Who Will Be the New Guardian of Innistrad?

It seems likely that Sorin will have to kill Avacyn, so Innistrad shall need a new guardian, to protect the plane (and especially its human inhabitants) from danger. Who will be worthy of taking up that position, of being Avacyn's successor?

I believe that Sigarda is the best candidate for that role, since she seems to be the only angel who has not been driven mad, although it seems that Saint Traft is also still active, so he may also play a role in protecting Innistrad, as well. I doubt that Sorin himself would assume that mantle, since he also is focused on stopping the Eldrazi from destroying the entire multiverse.

What does everyone else say about this? Who will be the new guardian of Innistrad?

Avacyn's already dead, as seen in Anguished Unmaking.

Joke answer: Ormendhal, the demon seen on Westvale Abbey  Flip, is actually a kind, loving, benevolent demon lord that is trying to lead the humans to greatness.

Real answer: I think Odric and Thalia are going to start leading the Order of Saint Traft or whatever was in the Lunarch Inquisition story.

Nahiri, after Sorin takes her spark away?

shinobigarth says... #4

Would have to be another being of power like Avacyn, so if Sigarda wasn't affected then she seems a good candidate. The humans led by Odric/Thalia should work closely with Sigarda and any other angels this time around to protect Innistrad together, taking the fight to the creatures of the night instead of mostly cowering in fear and playing defense. Like a superhero team!!

yeah sigarda sounds like a good choice if she makes it thru eldritch moon without going mad or dying or w/e.

sorin cant take nahiris spark away.

One possibility is that Sorin will create something like the Mantel of Avacyn which will be given to whomever is worthy.

today: humans die. vampires die. sorin dies. everyone dies.

tomorrow: Church of Emrakul

Twilgrimm says... #8

My guess would probably be Thalia. She didn't appear in Shadows (except in the form of her lieutenant) and the fact that she was 'chosen' by Saint Traft and is leading the 'true' church makes her look like a very solid candidate considering how much of the magic on Innistrad is based on faith.

I think Thalia, Odric, Traft, Sigarda, etc are going to end up forming a type of council to overlook the affairs of humans and the such.

Why not Liliana becoming the dictator of Innistrad? Would not her zombies be immune to Emrakul's power because they are undead?

May 15, 2016 6:24 p.m.

shinobigarth says... #11

Lili wouldn't care about the safety of Innistrad, she would use it and the humans to whatever end she needed at any given time, she wouldn't be an ideal protector so unlikely Sorin would choose her to be the new guardian.

May 15, 2016 6:50 p.m.

Homura_Akemi says... #12

Exactly! She would be the perfect ruler! Although I think Avacyn was doing just fine before Sorin murdered her in cold blood. >: P

Homura_Akemi says... #13

The humans deserved Avacyn's Judgment. There had to be an Angelic Purge sooner or later. What did the humans expect? The angels were Always Watching their sins.

Well, we haven't seen Bruna in this set. Maybe Sorin, Sigarda, or Bruna will take over. Thalia seems like an option too.

Homura_Akemi says... #15

Okay people. Thalia and Odric are in the Order of Saint Traft with Saint Traft. In the second SOI story, Sigarda mentions that there could be a few humans who would help her. DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!! Of course it is them!!!!! Sorting has always been the Lord of Innistrad and will likely back the Order of Saint Traft which is specifically targeting Ormendahl, Avacyn, and the Lunarch Council.

shinobigarth says... #16

i think the HEAD honcho will be Sigarda, as being she represents humanity on Innistrad the best. there are way more white or green non-werewolf humans on Innistrad than there are the other 3 colors. plus her new card gives humans hexproof too which seems to indicate protecting them even more.

so therefore i think Sorin will decide she's the best to put in charge, and then Bruna, if she's uncorrupted would be 2nd in command or put in charge of overseeing a certain part like the Saint Traft "division" with Thalia/Odric reporting to her as the human field commander. all this could end up being really sick if they organize this special human/angel coalition.

Sigarda imo.

Are the angels of innistrad beings of pure mana like demons, that can't be just killed of, as they reform (a lot later)?

May 16, 2016 10:19 a.m.

shinobigarth says... #20

the angels except for Avacyn were created from the dawn essence, whatever that means. i assume that means they are of mana. maybe the same time Innistrad was created, which would mean they predate Avacyn and even Sorin.

Emrakul...

Nahiri caused the 'madness' in her attempt to lure Emmy to Innistrad...

...but the 'madness' effects Emmy as much as it does any other creature on Innistrad. The effects vary quite differently with Eldrazi. Emmy becomes enthralled with the 'lesser' beings, stops consuming, and begins protecting/balancing.

Nahiri is forced by Emrakul to create a powerful Hedron which acts like a replacement for Helvault. It acts a lot like the Hedron which encased Ugin for so many long years. Encasing while restoring it's inhabitants. The main difference being that it's much more difficult to escape from. - It's first victim.... Nahari herself, as punishment for all she is attempting to do on Innistrad.

May 16, 2016 12:44 p.m.

shinobigarth says... #22

i could see Sorin forcing Nahiri to create a hedron as a replacement Helvault and then trapping her inside as poetic justice, but then appointing Sigarda as the guardian once Emmy is dealt with. but saying the madness would be able to affect Emmy and cause it to "turn good" and protect Innistrad is pretty silly.

May 16, 2016 2:17 p.m.

It seems like a poor decision to try to encase a lithomancer in a stone prison of her own design.

Just saying.

May 16, 2016 2:21 p.m.

Homura_Akemi says... #24

Xica Yes, angels are beings of pure mana. Therefore, Nahiri's crptoliths are mostly likely drawing Innistrad's mana together to attract Emrakul. When Avacyn is killed, her form of massive pure mana is released, probably being the final straw of Emrakul coming to Innistrad.

May 16, 2016 2:35 p.m.

Xica says... #25

...Avacyn is not an angel. She is a construct of Sorin's (probably blood)magic. Thus i doubt she would be a good bait.

I also doubt Emrakul is lure to Innistrad. Its strogly suggested that Nahiri was imprisoned in the helvault, after she discovered vampires on zendikar and gone to confront Sorin over them, their attempt to release the eldrazi, and why Sorin have done nothing about it (then she got locked up).
She does not even know about the release of the eldrazi, or that two of them were killed of. She probably just wants to mess up innistrad, like Sorins offspring did Zendikar.

May 16, 2016 3:22 p.m.

Homura_Akemi says... #26

Archangel Avacyn  Flip Avacyn, Angel of Hope clearly she is an angel. The evidence is in her card names. Nahiri may have been locked in the Helvault. That is a good theory and would explain the timing of the cryptoliths. However, Sorin's "offspring" were not on Zendikar. The Zenikari vampires hailed from humans that were altered by the Eldrazi.

May 16, 2016 3:31 p.m.

shinobigarth says... #27

She is an angel in form and function and that's what matters. If you wanna get technical then no angels are actually Angels, as they are basically just sentient bags of mana. The difference is Sorin custom-made her rather then her just being there for a long time like the 3 sisters.

Furthermore she is the second half of the protection system for Innistrad, the other being the Helvault so when she was destroyed, it made it possible for Emmy or whatever else to drop by.

Nahiri does not know that the eldrazi are free (at least it reasonable to assume). Why would she make an effort to "lure" them to innistrad?

How would the moon fit in with the eldrazi theories?

On the topic of Nahiri's revenge:
For me it seems when she left she felt her world was gone afoul transformed by madness, so that is what she planned to inflict on sorin, a world that despite his efforts, or thanks to his efforts tears itself apart, slowly.

"It was her fault. She had been the first to call Kozilek a god, and apparently the kor had remembered that word more than they had remembered her dire warnings about the gods destroying the world. She felt sick."

"Vampires? she thought. There are no vampires on Zendikar."

At lest there were no vampires on zendikar, that she knew of after the imprisonment of the eldrazi (since after it she wnet into hybernation)
For me it seems pretty obvious that Sorin needed to eat something, and needed something to fuel his bloodmagic against the eldrazi, so i would be surprised if he didn't created some vampires on Zendikar.

So i would dare to say its a fair assumption that for her, to believe that Sorin infected her world with vampirism. You know the creatures that managed to take over a continent, kill angels and the like, and were participating in a cult that planned to free the eldrazi, while Sorin did not appear to help her solve the situation.
In her place its a fair assumption that since - Sorin created vampires that tried to free the eldrazi, did not show up (contrary to his promises) to help solving the situation, and when confronted shut her up in the helvault for probably hundreds if not thousands of years - Sorin is bent on destroying her world, thus she intends to do the same to him.

This is not a debate to how vampires came to be on Innistrad. Referencing the Art of Zendikar book as a source, vamires were made as a magical affect of the Eldrazi.

Omeros, is that a joke, I imagine? Tibalt cares about only himself, so he would not care to guard Innistrad.

i dont think he's useful even for that.
