a couple of noob Q's

1) so I was playing a 2v2 with some friends of mine. for my team i was white and partner was red, and the opposing team was red and blue. anyway I had a creature card under the effect of an enchantment (which is red) given to me by my partner. However at one point the opposing team tried to get rid of my creature but I blocked it using the instant Brave the Elements which states: "choose a color. white creatures gain protection from the chosen color until end of turn". I chose red because of the opposing red guy to protect myself. now here's what happens. my friends argued that if i chose to do that then the red enchantment that i had earlier from my partner who happened to be red as well will come off and go into the graveyard. I'm pretty sure this isn't true since im assuming the instant i played obviously means "protection from" and i think its obvious that its for present events not past ones. and even if they are right in the first place would it really go into the graveyard or do i get the enchantment back from my partner since Brave the Elements only lasts until end of turn?

2) for Celestial Mantle it says "whenever enchanted creature deals combat damage to a player, double its controller's life total". so what exactly does that mean? like if the enchanted creature is a 7/7 and it deals 7 damage then I gain 14 life? or if I have 17 life and i successfully deal damage then my life becomes 34?

3)I'm planning on experimenting building more decks (more specifically swamps). what card types/seasons/whatever are currently "legal" to use besides the obvious 2010 and 2011? theres just so many names and titles out there o.o

2 when it says double controls life total, it means literally double it so if your life total is 15 and it deals combat damage to a player your life total becomes 30.

3 It depends on what you are playing, lots of people play Type 2: Standard decks the legal sets are.

The Alara Block, this includes Shards of Alara, Conflux and Alara Reborn.

M11 as the Core Set and the Zendikar Block, which includes Zendikar, Worldwake and Rise of the Eldrazi.

If your playing Extended, Legacy or Vintage then let us know so we can tell you which sets are legal for that game type.

RE: q1

You would, in fact, lose the red enchantment. Protection does lots of things - A pro-red creature cannot be targeted by red spells or abilities from red sources, cannot be dealt damage by red sources, cannot be blocked by red creatures, and cannot be enchanted by red enchantments.

That last one means that your creature was no longer eligible for the enchantment, and so the enchantment gets destroyed. An enchantment is a permanent like artifacts or lands, not a one shot thing like a sorcery, and so must always be legal.

You can, however, use it to get rid of annoying auras like Pacifism or Lignify though.

Hope that helps.

So I am very heavily thinking about making a standard Naya deck although I only play EDH now. Money isn't an issue thankfully. I'm just trying to figure out what I should do with it. There are tons of win conditions so I was thinking earlier in the game I could just drop mana dorks and Courser of Kruphix . So 4x Elvish Mystic 4x Sylvan Caryatid and 3x Courser of Kruphix . After that I'll just get in win conditions. Polukranos, World Eater , Stormbreath Dragon , Elspeth, Sun's Champion , Nissa, Worldwaker , and Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker could all be my win conditions. I'll even throw in a play set of Fleecemane Lion for early game if I pull him. What do you think? Can I do something better?

I have a deck like that currently built and it performs well. You need to have some sort of removal though. I like banishing light (doesn't deal with opposing storm breaths) but it's still does most things. It's not tier one I think but it's still a good deck.

Naya Planeswalkers seems promising. Featuring early game ramp and courser as you said, leading into Sarkhan, Elspeth, Ajani, Xenagos, Nissa. There are just so many good options! Outside of the walkers there is great removal in simple burn, Banishing Light , etc. I think it could potentially be viable and pretty fun. Ramp, Planeswalkers and removal and there is a solid deck haha.

Yeah Ajani Steadfast is a walker I've been using that I don't see much and it does some serious work. I have two in my deck and 6/6 polukranos with lifelink first strike and vigilance is NASTEY on turn 4 with some ramp. But other than that naya walkers has some good options.
