Need Help Replacing a Card

Commander Deck Help forum

This EDH deck that I made is my baby. Every time I play with this deck, I have a big smile on my face. It is very unique in a way where each time it feels like a brand new experience.

However, the only part I hate is when I find a card that I want to add in, but I have so much trouble picking out the right card because I built this deck from the ground up and I personally picked each card individually. Now that I found this one card, Sphinx's Tutelage, I want to add it so badly, but I am having a hard time figuring what to cut.

I know for a fact that I want to add this card because it is so broken in here I can't even begin to describe how bad I want this card. I even spent hours at my prerelease just trying to find it, but only one person seemed to have it and he just gave it to me for free!

Anyway, enough of my ramblings. Can anyone help me make a decision about which card to take out? You'll be able to see the deck here:

The Needs of the Many...

Just a quick note, this is the deck I have in real life, but I don't have the money to purchase a few things that I might need for the deck. If you happen to add some suggestions or improvements, even if it's not about Sphinx's Tutelage, please leave them. I am always looking for ways to improve my deck.

I'd suggest taking out Sphinx of Uthuun. The FoF on a body is nice, but he's kind of expensive, and doesn't trigger your "when you draw a card" effects like psychosis crawler. Plus, I find when drawing cards, it's better to not let your opponent have a say I what you get.

I'd also like to suggest a few other cards you might enjoy- Tamiyo, the Moon Sage is fantastic in EDH, she can protect herself, sometimes draws you cards, and her ult is amazing. The newly-released Jace, Vryn's Prodigy  Flip is something I'm testing out in my Oloro deck, and so far I'm liking him. The recursion of my spells is great, and even as a creature he helps me find things I need to get going in the early game. Solemn Simulacrum is better in multi-color decks, but still represents a bit of ramp for you, and is wonderful as a blocker, since his death is good for you. Lastly, Forbid is a great counterspell in a deck like this that loves drawing cards. You can turn your useless late-game lands into buyback to always have a counter ready- though I notice you aren't running any counterspells at all, so maybe that's not your style.

Actually, the way the deck is built, it acts as a hug style deck, but can spiral out of control if left unchecked. So I include cards like Temple Bell, Jace Beleren, and Dictate of Kruphix. That way I can get the others on my side, which makes the Uuthun work in my favor a lot of the time.

I was considering taking out Sphinx of Magosi, but I don't have too many big creatures that can get pretty big. However, it doesn't always work as well as I'd hope, so I think I'll take it out.

As for the cards suggestions, I like the Tamiyo, but I don't have a lot of money right now. I'll see if I can get one for cheap. The sad robot is nice and also pretty cheap, so I think I'll be able to get one cheap. The Forbid however I will not buy. I despise control because it's just utterly boring. I will only play it in 2 headed giant games or other teamwork variations because I use it to help out other people, but not hurt them.

That's fair, but I think it's worth mentioning that Sphinx's Tutelage is not hug like, and will draw some hate- mill is a painful way to see your cards get wasted.

I wouldn't remove the Sphinx of Magosi, 6 for a 6/6 flyer that draws cards and gets bigger is pretty good. Maybe Phantasmal Image? I see that clones are a way for you to win, but that one is a little glass-cannon, since it's so easily removed. Or Staff of Nin? Kind of expensive for what it does.

Well, the deck is supposed to be a mixture of hug and hate. Even Phelddagrif decks have some form of hatred, even though it's meant to help. That's why I have cards like Viseling, Misers' Cage, and Jace's Erasure.

I like the staff because it grants me automatic card draw, but I understand what you're saying. 6 mana is a lot, it doesn't add to my devotion, and 1 damage barely hurts any creature in EDH. Now that I'm typing this out, it's not the best card for this deck. I think I will replace it with the tutelage. Thank you for your suggestions.
