Amonkhet Update —May 3, 2017

Only new card I've added from Amonkhet is Sheltered Thicket. It's great cuz it can be fetched by Nature's Lore, Farseek, and Skyshroud Claim. A few other small changes recently:

Mana-Charged Dragon - - - >Thunderfoot Baloth : the dragon was ok but I prefer to have something that can buff my entire team.

Birds of Paradise - - - >Farseek: mana dorks are inherently vulnerable in Commander. Somberwald Sage, Elvish Piper, and Selvala, Heart of the Wilds all stay because of the crazy value they offer.

Temur Battle Rage + Mage Slayer - - - >World at War + Seize the Day: Extra combat steps actually give larger power buffs with Xenagos than power buffs. Both are great but a couple cards needed to go to make room for more extra combat step cards.

Malignus and Putrefax are both one hit kills with zenagos out

Snapdisastermage, I had Putrefax and Malignus in here with earlier versions of the deck. I found them a little too easy-win. I've excluded them now on purpose. Undeniably powerful though

So, Xenagod loves extra combat steps. Simply loves them. Since his ability triggers at the beginning of combat, any extra combats you take let him trigger an additional time that turn. And since he essentially doubles a creatures power, that second combat time you're striking for 4x the damage. Combined with the first combat step, you're hitting for a whopping 6x damage with a creature that turn.

World at War is one of the best, as it has rebound, giving you two turns in a row of double combat steps for just one card. Seize the Day probably takes second slot, as flashback again doubles its utility. Savage Beating can be expensive, but is also well worth it. A 5/5, doubled to 10/10 with Xenagod, swings for 20 with double strike, then gets doubled again and swings for 40 in the second attack. That's 60 damage in one turn off a 5/5.

JaysomeDecks thanks for your suggestions. I totally agree with you. I've had world at war on my maybe list for a while and I'm having a tough time deciding what to cut. I'm trying to strike a good balance between enough ramp, beaters, protection, and extra damage.

Savage beating is already in the deck because it's absolutely brutal when it hits. Seize the day would be great. Perhaps better than Temur battle rage because of the flashback?
