Livingham,
Following up on your thread ...

I'll take a deeper look later, but I run a Rith deck over at Smashface Gardening w/ Rith (EDH Dragons) with a very heavy token and +1/+1 counter theme. You might want to check it out, and also the Full Maybeboard (Smashface Gardening w/ Rith)

Super low land amount, but otherwise i like it. +1

Thanks man, the lands are really low but if you can mulligan into 2-3 lands then you can ramp out and be good for the rest of the game.

Hey nice deck, but may I ask why the Flooded Strand and not a Wooded Foothills?

Livingham says... #7

GamingApostleIdeally, I would have all the fetches except polluted delta, but I'm only using what I have at the moment. I also need to pick up a sacred foundry as soon as possible but with all the ramp, I never have a problem with producing the right colors.

Sweet deck, +1!

Really the only things I can thing to add are maybe Bloodspore Thrinax and Forgotten Ancient

Another option for getting rid of Marath when needed: Return-to-hand effects. Not sure if that would work better than killing him (her? it?), but figured it was worth mentioning. I like Whitemane Lion, but there's a bunch of good options.

And for regaining control, I love Homeward Path.

Draw well!

Your deck looks good. +1 i would increase the land count and if you can get a Doubling Season that would help you alot.

Livingham says... #11

Arthfael208 Thanks man I appreciate it, I do have a doubling season though and my land count is really low but it's never a problem as long as you mulligan into a couple lands and some ramp which is easily achievable.

Cant believe i miss doubling season i even looked for it. But it is my favorite card of my marath deck because it is just so useful.

How has Vexing Shusher worked for you? I was thinking of adding it. I have a problem with only having 4 ways to stop counters. As my play group loves counter and will usually play against 2 decks heavy in counters however when they dont play counters Vexing Shusher seems like it would not do anything.

Thanks for asking that, Arthfael208!

I have an increasing challenge with that in my Rith deck and am wondering the same thing. Spellbreaker Behemoth? Grand Abolisher? Dragonlord Dromoka? Vexing Shusher?
Win the lottery and pick up a Cavern of Souls? :-)

Thanks to you both for any thoughts!

I actually revised my deck recently and took the shusher out for more utility, I'll make the changes to my deck as soon as I get home later. It definitely helped at times and even won me a few games against my friend's arcanis deck just because it let me actually resolve my spells, but it's been a dead card in many situations and I would rather have a card in my deck that's always useful over a card that's occasionally better but usually just takes up space.

My deck is still better :-P Hipster Racoon Combo Control

But still +1 for decent assortment of cards!

1v1, me you won't.

El-Jefe im sorry but imo Livingham's deck is more along the lines of a competitive deck, although they are both great decks! +1.

I'm reconstructing my deck from the ground up currently, and I've taken more than a few notes from here. I'm on the fence about Champion of Lambholt, though it seems like great utility, and I would certainly play it for curve reasons. How reliable has it been for you?

It's becoming a bit of a Group-Hug/Creatures deck, but not like "Oh let's all have fun" Group-Hug, more like competitive control group-hug, where you're the one to benefit most off of symmetrical goodies like Rites of Flourishing, Zhur-Taa Ancient, and Dictate of the Twin Gods.

What are your thoughts on Kiki-Combos, and do you think boardwipes are generally a bad idea with Marath?

instead of Gorgon's Head you can use Basilisk Collar. It is the same but has lifelink for a few life while pinging creatures.

November 25, 2016 8:44 p.m.

Livingham says... #21

I didn't include it strictly because of budget. It's definitely better but the benefits of it over gorgon's head are so minimal, I would rather spend the money on a different card.

November 25, 2016 9:21 p.m.

Arthfael208 says... #22

yeah that is true. I was wondering how do you deal with heavy control decks?

November 25, 2016 9:29 p.m.

Livingham says... #23

Against normal heavy control, I can usually dish out combo pieces too fast for them to control. A specific friend has an arcanis deck though that can keep counters up consistently enough that it poses a problem unless I can aggro/combo out within the first 4 turns or so, that's the kind of scenario where I want to run vexing shusher but it's so linear in every other scenario that I'm not sure if it's worth it.
