Maybeboard

Rith is happiest when she's either smashing face with her Dragon friends or doing a little work in her Saproling garden. And this deck is all about making Rith happy!

The idea is to generate enough Saprolings to hold off the table while ramping into Rith (who brings a TON of Saprolings) and her Dragon-y beater pals ... with a hefty dose of pump effects and token exploiters along the way. The deck also has small card draw and removal packages, a touch of Voltron, and a few other utilities. I've listed some cards in more than one category, and I think most of them are self-explanatory. But here are some notes on a few:

Land

Spells

  • Darksteel Mutation: Probably my favorite removal spell of all time
  • Fanatical Devotion: So nice, for the inevitable boardwipes
  • Mana Echoes: Insane amounts of mana. Please note though that mana created when Rith puts Saprolings on the battlefield can only be used during the Combat Phase.
  • Reconnaissance: Attack without fear, plus untap during the End of Combat Step for a Vigilance effect
  • Shamanic Revelation: This card is so broken! The only danger is it's not a "may" effect, so make sure you don't accidentally mill yourself out :-)
  • Trailblazer's Boots: Simply amazing in Commander. I've no idea why everyone doesn't run it.
  • Xenagos, the Reveler: Really just here for his +1 ability

Combos

And a special mention goes to Strionic Resonator, perhaps my favorite card of all time. It combos with a ton of cards in the deck, but here are a few worth highlighting:

I'm aiming for a 75% build, with no tutors (except for lands) and very strong flavor (e.g., Saproling and Dragon tokens only, with just a couple minor flavor misses).

  • Xenagos, the Reveler: Man, I hope I never have to use his 0 ability. Satyrs? Yuck.
  • Trailblazer's Boots: It seems like Rith would love a pair of these, as there's not much she enjoys more than handing out a 6-to-the-face and getting a bunch of Saprolings in return. But Dragons don't wear boots. Maybe she just carries them around?

Also, the deck's on a tight budget, so any card over $5 has to be REALLY good. Mana Echoes is really my absolute top-end; cards like Doubling Season are right out.

With all that in mind, I'd love your comments and suggestions, especially on cards from recent sets.

FYI, here's my current maybeboard: Full Maybeboard (Smashface Gardening w/ Rith)

The original inspiration for the deck came from Jimmy Wong and Josh Lee Kwai's Command Zone podcast on Rith, Tomer Abramovici's Budget Commander article on Gahiji, the collective wisdom of the Rith fans at EDHREC.com, and a ton of advice from michael921. It continues to evolve based on your comments and my favorite Rith and other Naya decks here on TappedOut.

Finally, if you get a chance sometime, please check out my other EDH decks: Sandbagging with Hazezon and Jeleva, a heleva good Commander. I'd appreciate your comments there too!

Thanks much!

P.S. Please don't forget to +1 Upvote if you like it :-)
