Changes Made back in June 2021 —Dec. 17, 2021

Put in Amphin Mutineer, Coercive Recruiter, Merchant Raiders, and Reflections of Littjara.

Can’t remember what was taken out, but basically upgraded old pirates.

Heavily considering taking out Captain's Hook and Demoralize as there have been a number of games now where these cards have just sat in my hand.

Why no Admiral Beckett Brass? He's a bad M.F.er!

Christpunchers666 I started with BB as my commander but changed because it was less efficient. I would put him in but his abilities aren't associated with ETB trigger which is what a good amount of the other pirates are capable of. Maybe I'll experiment with him in it for a while... see how it plays. I am playing with Lannery Storm and she doesn't have an ETB either but contributes to the treasure aspect of the deck.

Christpunchers666 Do you run Marchesa as your commander?

McToters No I don't have that card but it looks tits. Your deck is the first time I've seen it but I dig it for sure. Seems really op.

Hey thank you! Marchesa and Pirates are a match made in Heaven with the ETBs. And the flavor still works without the Grixis pirate commander. Thank you for the love and the comment!

Love tribal Pirates!

There is a lot of room for improvement with your mana base: filter lands, modal lands, bond lands, etc.

I think Malcolm, Keen-Eyed Navigator would be a nice addition, generating mana and potentially ramping treasures into your Mechanized Production.

Coastal Piracy is on-theme and a great draw engine.

I would use Shared Animosity over Kindred Charge.

Hope these comments give you ideas!

Haha, yes! That mana base again!!! I don’t really care for Coastal Piracy even though it is card draw, but I do like the Shared Animosity rec... it is a cheaper cmc to Kindred Charge. I like that! I am aware of Malcolm but not sure where he would fit. I would take suggestions on what cards you think are the weak links of you were to put Malcolm or Coastal Piracy in. Thanks and Cheers!

Not only is Shared Animosity cheaper, but it stays on the board an provides the boost turn after turn.

I feel you are gambling a lot on Arcane Adaptation while it seems unnecessary to me. Most of your creatures are Pirates, and those that are not should generate enough value to disregard the tribal element. Chart a Course is a one-shot draw that could make room for repeated draw. This could free 2 spots for Reconnaissance Mission and a Bident of Thassa , both are better than Coastal Piracy.

I would cut Prosperous Pirates to make way for Malcolm, Keen-Eyed Navigator ; a potential of 3 treasures per turn is better than a one-time effect for 2 treasures.

Marionette Master is a very convoluted way of attempting to benefit from your treasures, while you should actually try to hold on to them so you can trigger Mechanized Production or Revel in Riches, making it a non-bo card. I would replace it with Archetype of Imagination (or Sun Quan, Lord of Wu if you have one, or both!) which could win you the game for the same casting cost. This also replaces your Nemesis Mask, freeing a spot for something like Cover of Darkness .

Brass's Bounty and Pirate's Pillage are also one-shot deals that could make way for more stable pieces, like Inspiring Statuary , allowing you to tap your treasures for colorless mana.

I hope I am not overwhelming you with this cascade of suggestions, hopefully some of these will be helpful to you!

Heliogabale hey! I really appreciate all your feedback and advice lately! It’s particularly nice for this deck because I never considered changing cards like Arcane Adaptation , but you make some really great points. I really like your latest three suggestions with Archetype, Cover of Darkness and Inspiring Statuary. Those are all nice adds. You also make a great case for Malcolm over Posperous Pirates. I also want to make sure I’m keeping my Pirates and creatures that have the ETBs. I will definitely think this over. It’s another aspect of Kindred Charge I forgot about, in that, it triggers ETBs—but the consistent value of Shared animosity makes a ton of sense.

It is a good point that Kindred Charge can generate ETBs, it may end up being a keeper for you, I guess it just feels a bit "winmore" without having actually playtested. However if you want to maximize ETBs maybe you could go with Panharmonicon ?

Another great counterpoint with Panharmonicon! You may be on to something. I could use Shared Animosity instead of Kindred and then slot in Panharmonicon in place of something else. I’m going to think about it some more but you’ve stated some great angles I have not thought of before.

I’d appreciate some feedback on my Mishra or Gyome decks if you think you can supply any advice. Both are technically budgets and I know they can be better than they are with simple land base upgrades at the very least. No worries if you don’t check them out!

Cheers!
