1-3 at FNM! —Nov. 2, 2012

I should quickly summarise my 1-3 FNM result last week, which I consider to be an overwhelming success.

I got trampled over by RDW, Selesnya, and Jund decks (which I won't bother reporting as you can guess how things went), but I went 2-0 against Azorius Control! Yay me!

Game one:
After setting up 3 flying blockers, my opponent's Entreat the Angels was only hitting for 4 each turn, which gave me time to cast Door to Nothingness (on which my opponent played a Detention Sphere the next turn) and ramp up to WWUUBBRRGG. At the end of his turn I cast Cyclonic Rift, untapped the Door and won! I must confess that this win was massively aided by the fact that my opponent didn't draw a single counterspell)

Game two:
Sideboarded in my mill deck. By turn 5 I cast the first Increasing Confusion, to which my opponent responded with the best WTF face of the night. He could not understand why a Door to Nothingness deck would run a mill card. But by the time Jace, Memory Adept came out and he realised what was going on, it was too late: despite having a couple of Increasing Confusion countered, in my final turn I activated Jace's 0 ability and flashed back the final Increasing Confusion which combined to a whopping 26 cards. Win!

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys. This deck is working better than I had ever hoped for.

the Keyrune artifacts from RtR are nice for ramp... but technically they could be considered a win-con...

What should I remove if I add some keyrunes?

I would say the 2x Dawntreader Elk... you already have alot of ways to get specific mana out of your library. Or any other card that you find yourself not wanting/needing to use...

I playtested with a varying combination of keyrunes, but they don't work too well.

I think I'll drop the 2 Oblivion Ring s for an extra two Fog Bank s.

I'll try to find the link later, but I made an omniscience combo deck pre-rotation that could survive while ramping up to 10 mana. might look at it for possible additions.went 2-2 at fnm with it.

theres the deck. I didn't update it from the 2nd fnm where it went 2-2 but the decklist is fairly close. Since your running door, i wouldn't recommend the lotus because it only adds a single color

I've had a look at your deck and was thinking that Abundant Growth might be a good idea.

-2 card:Ranger's Path -1 Farseek for 3 Abundant Growth ? What do you think?

I was originally running Tree of Redemption but after testing I found that Fog Bank works a lot better. I might put a couple in the sideboard, though, as they probably work a lot better against red burn decks.

In my deck it was more about getting to omniscience mana rather than getting the right color, by the time you are able to cast omniscience or activate door you should see every 4of in your deck since your ramping out lands from your deck making every card more likely to pop up

For your deck, I'd run a full playset of rangers path, farseek, and either abundant growth or elvish visionary. The former will put lands on the field quickly, the latter will draw cards and either fix mana or provide blockers. By the time your able to cast and activate door to nothingness your deck should easily pull one lantern turning all your forests into rainbowlands.

If you wanted to, you could put together a sideboard which radically shifted the strategy of this deck after the first round. 4x Doorkeeper , 4x Increasing Confusion (a place to dump all that mana), Jace (just because), etc. Your opponent will be like, "What happened to that door?"... :)

I imagine you already know this, but in case it wasn't clear, Farseek and card:Ranger's Path can fetch the "shock lands" like Overgrown Tomb and Temple Garden . You don't need as much basic land as you are presently running... (of course, those lands are rares)

Cyclonic Rift might be worth sideboarding if you find your opponent is able to get past your defenders, since you have so little creature hate and do have enough mana to Overload it.

p.s. i could use some feedback on Big Life... Thank you in advance. :)

Your idea to sideboard a mill deck is amazing. As I'm building this mainly for the WTF?! factor, changing the strategy half way though a match would be hilarious.

The mana base is a bit of a mess because those are the lands I own at the moment: ideally I'd run mostly shock lands, but I'll add them as I get hold of them.

Cyclonic Rift is already in my deck, I've just forgotten to update it on TappedOut.

Thanks for the tips.

Thank you.

The main strategy of the deck can be summarised in 3 letters: WTF.

And if the WTF is big enough, you win (especially on game 2).
