So basically i like koth of the Hammer and he is actually a pretty cheap plainswalker at the moment.
Also looking at the Koth Vs. Venser Duel Deck just made me want to build a better Koth Deck.
Also this is for casual so i do want to keep the power level low and the budget too. (mainly the $ goes to Koth and Purphoros).
Enough of the reasons to make the deck: To fit is basically to make mountains matter. So i am having a bit of aggressive landfall creatures/spells and enablers. Then bringing in an army to defend koth to accelerate further and make my lands dish out the damage.
1) aggressive ETB effects for creatures are great. Hanweir Lancer, Hammer of Purphoros, Purphoros, God of the Forge, Lightning Mauler all add value to getting more creatures out.
2) Reach, is awesome in stalled boards. Thus Stone Giant, Purphoros, God of the Forge, Fling, Devil's Play are great.
3.) Most Red Decks level off at 4cmc, we however are not, so let us take advantage of it. Stone Giant, Purphoros, Koth, Volcanic Dragon, Furystoke Giant, Zealous Conscripts.
4.) We are getting land, lots of it. Besides casting higher CMC cards, lets use some landfall triggers like searing blaze and Plated Geopede, and activate them with land tutoring artifacts like Explorer's Scope.
Mostly proportion wise i would like some advice, and also budget card additions. I am mostly having trouble with the land tutoring aspect (deck's bottleneck): Stuck between Armillery Sphere and Explorer's Scope, might go with a mix.
As this is casual, the focus is not cuttthroath got to win, spend a lot of $. I want it to be interesting, this is why i am not buying expensive cards (except for Koth and Purphoros). I like to tweak decks consistency to make them lower powered. Also last note i play multiplayer casual mostly, and have decks at all levels of power, and i plan to make this somewhat mid tier.
