Combating Collected Company —July 19, 2015

Lost to Collected company counters (CoCoCo) 1-2

Lost game1: Slow start for both sides, I played a pair of Slumbering Dragons on one and two. Thundermaw Hellkite took him down to 8 life before he attacked with his whole team and bounced my slumbering dragon with a Simic Charm to win.

Won game2: Still started with Slumbering Dragon but not as slow of a game. Ended up with a Thunderbreak Regent on turn three (thanks to Atarka's Command). Game was nicely finished up by drawing into and playing two more Regents.

Lost game3: The last game was a pretty straight forward game for his deck, had answers for my creatures. between Simic Charm and Reality Shift I couldn't ever really get a foothold. Also accidentally wasted some removal on a Strangleroot Geist.

Sideboard choices: I forgot to sideboard at all (super stupid, I know!). Going forward I'll need to make sure and remember.

Extra notes: Slumbering Dragon was a great start as always. Taurean Mauler and Thunderbreak Regent were both great. The games were decided largely by how much removal he had. I think going forward I'll need to add more protection, his recommendation was Vines of Vastwood which I might try out instead of Mutagenic Growth. Descendants' Path was a real dud, but Hunter's Insight was great so I might just add a third copy of that. in the mean time I'll be trying out Elemental Bond.

Deck Changes: Cards Removed: -1 Descendants' Path. Cards Added: +1 Elemental Bond. Cards Considering: -2 Mutagenic Growth, -1 Elemental Bond for +2 Vines of Vastwood, +1 Hunter's Insight.

I don't think manamorphose is the right Thing to get in this deck as it's more of a card to storm than getting less card in a deck. Maybe you should change it fore a card that you'll actualy use like 2 more Dragon Tempest, 1 more Slumbering Dragon and 1 more Taurean Mauler as it's a good treath to deal with I believe and since the fact that you,ll have more dragon's in the deck those 2 Dragon Tempest will be worth.

I do really like that Manamorphose does some thinning and fixing but you might be right. While I'd be ok with an extra Slumbering Dragon and Taurean Mauler I think adding anymore Dragon Tempests is not a good idea, I'd have a playset of Tempest if the ability was stackable but it's not. I might try 3 Tempest at most, I've also been thinking about trying out Apostle's Blessing; any thoughts?

Hi why don't you put in a Crucible of Fire

I really like Crucible of Fire the problem with the card is how slow it is. without an immediate impact on it's own is hard to justify. (I might try one copy as some point just because I want it to be good, haha)

I think Sarkhan's Triumph should be in here so you can grab the need Dragon for the specific task

CSchademann: Does the Dragon Tempest "Whenever a Dragon enters the battlefield" ability really not stack if you have more of them on the battlefield?

I could have that wrong (if I do I'll be adding 2 more immediately!) but I think the way it's worded specifically "... it [the Dragon] deals X damage to target creature or player...". I'm pretty sure that because the card is having the dragon deal the damage upon ETB it can't have that ability more than once. If it was worded like Thunderbreak Regent, so the Dragon Tempest was doing the damage, then it would be stackable and way more awesome. Again, I could have that totally wrong but I haven't had anyone say otherwise so far.

axeltt012 & XTrinX: I did a little homework and it looks like the general consensus is Tempest does stack. I don't know where I got it in my head that it doesn't stack but good news is that the card is better than I thought! Someone also pointed out that the wording on Scourge of Valkas and Dragon Tempest is about the same, so, I guess I'm dumb. haha.Anyway thanks for the suggestions/inquires, Deck changes to come soon!
