Daring Perplexing Currency

Casual* Budget RUG (Temur) Theme/Gimmick

Caes

This is the deck I played in the Return to Ravnica/Theros Standard.

I have a weak spot for playing my opponents' spell. I have wanted to use Conjured Currency in standard, but have not found a viable way until now. What you see here is my modified version of the last honorable mention in the Daily Mtg Reconstructed article Evolving Mono-Blue.

The strategy of this deck is simple:

  1. Play ramp and defensive spells until you get a Perplexing Chimera, Conjured Currency , or Daring Thief.

  2. Once they are out, begin trading mana dorks and lands for your opponent's good stuff.

  3. Once you have what you need to win, cast Gruul Charm to take back all of your own permanents. This can be very crippling if you focus on taking lands their lands.

  4. Win the game with your opponent's stuff and things.

Side Notes

  • Get more bang for your mana by using Retraction Helix on a creature, sending something back to your opponents's hand, untapping the creature with Kiora's Follower , and tapping the creature to send something else back to their hand as well.

  • If at all possible, refrain from trading the chimera for permanents, that way you can guarantee getting it back with a Gruul Charm .

  • Use Retraction Helix on a mana dork in response to trading the chimera for an opponent's spell.. Once the trade as resolved, tap the mana dork to send your chimera back to your hand.

  • Use Simic Charm give all your permanents hexproof and your opponent will not be able to take anything with Conjured Currency .

  • Cyclonic Rift and Retraction Helix are excellent for bouncing thing your opponent has stolen with Conjured Currency back to your hand. Or for bouncing Conjured Currency back to your hand for that matter.

  • Kiora's Follower is Daring Thief's best friend. Tap the thief with a Retraction Helix to bounce something of your opponent's, untap it with the follower to trigger inspired and swap your follower with one of your opponent's creatures, and then tap the thief again to sent your follower back to your hand!! Hooray for value and synergy!!

If you can think of a way to improve this deck or cards that need to be in the sideboard, I am open to suggestions. Don't forget to +1 if you like it and thanks for reading!

Daring Thief is just what this deck needed to get started in the early portion of the game. I can't wait to see how it plays!
