This is Pioneer Pod! an exciting Rogue Decklist I cooked up to spice up your next game night and possibly even make a brand new archtype for pioneer you can find on MTG Goldfish (not affiliated), but first I need your help. I want this deck to be a reality and make Birthing pod a real thing even if birthing pod isnt playable. so if you are willing to help let me give you a rundown on a few key components that the deck relies on so that you have a basic understanding what this deck seeks to accomplish. now without Further ado let's jump right into it.
#1: Game Plan And Synergies
the way you get this decks engine running is by using Prime Speaker Vannifar + Llanowar Elves/Gilded Goose you can search up Corridor Monitor to untap Prime Speaker Vannifar. you can then use Corridor Monitor
+
Prime Speaker Vannifar
to search up Bounding Krasis to untap Prime Speaker Vannifar. this allows the same strategy as used before only now you are using Bounding Krasis
+
Prime Speaker Vannifar
to search up Breaching Hippocamp which, like the other targets, untaps "Prime Speaker Vannifar". Finally use Breaching Hippocamp
+
Prime Speaker Vannifar
to pull the card needed to pull ahead. Unlike typical Birthing Pod decks this deck is not capable of continuing this flurry of activated triggers to win in a hurry. instead it relies more on creatures with decent stats and ETB Triggers that slow the opponent. It also has no Infinite combo, relying more on efficent and scary creatures to pressure your opponent and win the game. one real strength this deck has is creatures that steal from your opponents. this allows you to use their cards as toolbox fuel and then use the creature you played to toolbox later. this leads to part 2 of the evaluation...
#2: Deck Classification
Let me make something very clear, This is NOT a combo Deck! it may seem like it with the toolbox strategy and everything but it is meant to be a control deck with a simple endgame, Remove Problems + late-game Beatdown. just because it has a toolbox strategy doesn't mean I want this deck to work as a combo deck. this is important as it will give you an idea of where I want this deck to go and what help I need to make it perform better. if you want it to work as a combo deck, thats fine. you are more than happy to take this deck idea and tinker it to do what you want. this is just the strategy I wish to focus on and I hope that your criticism is positive and geared towards a control strategy.
#3: Noticeable Issues
from what I can see there are three glaring issues with the deck and its goal. since the first two parts were so long I will make them Brief...
1. Boardwipes - if the deck faces a boardwipe you can consider it game over as this deck has very little chance of recovering.
2. ETB Negators - just like a boardwipe, if a card enters play that can negate ETB triggers this deck will not be able to recover.
3. Sideboard - This is more of a problem of not being too familiar with the current meta and how it shifts, as I do not play Pioneer as much as other formats. this means I will be taking any help I can get with the sideboard and how I should address it.
Hopefully we can work hard as a community and build the next big Pioneer deck, and hey who knows, it might be so good that it gets banned out of existence! but lets hope it doesn't come to that...
