please define forest

I've seen, "as long as you control a forest," you can X, Y, or Z. But what is a forest? Is Tropical Island a forest? is Dryad Arbor or Wanderwine Hub a forest?
A Forest is a card with the subtype Forest. Forest is a Forest. Snow-Covered Forest is a Forest. Dryad Arbor is a Forest. Tropical Island is a Forest. Breeding Pool is a Forest. Murmuring Bosk is a Forest.
Things that are not a Forest:
- Island : It is an Island.
- Blood Crypt : It is a Swamp and a Mountain.
- Reliquary Tower : It is just a land. It has no subtypes.
- Simic Guildgate : Even though it has a green mana symbol in its rules text, it is only a Gate, not a Forest.
- City of Brass : Even though it can tap for any color of mana, it has no subtypes.

Basically, a forest is a card that has the word "forest" in the "card type bar" as Breeding Pool has "Land - Forest Island".

A Forest is any card with the basic land type "Forest."
Tropical Island , Breeding Pool , Dryad Arbor , and Murmuring Bosk are all Forests, as are several other lands (and, of course, Forest ).
Temple of Mystery , Sunpetal Grove , and Raging Ravine are not Forests because they do not have the Forest basic land type.
