Announced during GP Indy, the Spring 2016 set is Shadows over Innistrad!
Edits for FAQ:
- Here is Mark Rosewater on why we're getting two returns in a row.
That horse must have so much HORSE-power that it can resurrect itself without turning into a zombie.
...Alright. That was bad. Before my throat gets anymore HORSE, bye bye. :p

Phaetion: Stop! Please! Have mercy! My kidneys can't much more of these puns.
March 16, 2016 3:30 p.m.
NarejED: My response is in the flavor text.
I'm just sitting here, snickering while everyone groans and begs for mercy. Maybe I really am mad.
Seriously though, maybe he finds a new horse, rides it, then devours it. Repeat ad nauseum.

What a sinister concoction of puns. I bet you really picked your brains for those. I don't think they are quite their perfected forms yet, though.

So with Falkenrath Gorger and Rattlechains, are we likely to see a Rare creature in each color that gives bonuses to a creature type? Maybe all bonuses for creatures that aren't on the battlefield?
March 16, 2016 3:40 p.m.
DarkLaw: Yes, I have Awoken a Horror. I didn't Pick my Brains for those puns, especially not from a Jar. The puns came from an Epiphany while Pouring over the Page(s). I could go on forever to Perfect the Forms of my punnery if I wanted to, but I think people will be Mobilized War if I do.

@square711: I quite like the new Livvy art, it at least has a very strong connection to the original Olivia Voldaren art.

IMO, I think SOI is extremely pushed from a power standpoint. Some of these card are just flat-out absurd in power. Obvious with the mythics of Archangel Avacyn, Arlinn Kord(which WILL bust the format) Sigarda, Heron's Grace Relentless Dead, Nahiri, the Harbinger AND Startled Awake.
Not even including the many of great cards at the rare and uncommon slots. So much flexibility and utility around but with some really interesting turns at design which could have some really neat archetypes.(i.e Elusive Tormentor )
If anything I feel that this was the goal from which BFZ/OGW had failed at with upping the diversity in draft and induction of constructed play. The only cards seeing major play from BFZ is Gideon, Ally of Zendikar and Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger, which speaks for itself in a disappointment.
I feel that this set was a response to that and the power level of constructed projected from rotation. Even without fetches, I think standard and draft should be great. Some cards will see some modern and maybe even eternal formats. Very excited about SOI.

Phaetion In which case, your mind must be quite the macabre waltz. I refuse to puzzle over the pieces of said mind- I would rather ride at breakneck pace to the slaughter. Maybe someone else can deliver me from this persistent nightmare.
Supposedly, we're getting more vampires later on today/tonight.
March 16, 2016 3:50 p.m.
VampireArmy The issue is want for more vampires and more Madness enablers. I just borrowed from RB Eldrazi to fill in the spaces. It does feel awkward having, for example, Forerunner of Slaughter just to enhance the playability of Inverter of Truth, or Ob for draw. Though, I do still think IoT can be a powerful curve topper provided you can get it to combo with Olivia; 7 in the air hurts.

DarkLaw: I swear we could go on forever, but for the "mercy" of the other people on this thread or reading it, this may as well be its own deal.

I am so freaked out by Jace's new face. Is anyone else? He looks like a psychotic psychic remorseless mindwiper. If I saw him in an alleyway, I'd have to keep him at a distance with a push broom.
March 16, 2016 4:09 p.m.
I suppose it's the eyes. It's really hard to see his pupils.

Apparently, this is the flavor text for Rise from the Tides.
"Dear little brother, it must be fun to have your toys shared with Ludevic. Oh, I have also found someone new to play with.

Uh oh...may have to splash blue in my mono-black control deck now just for Jace :(
March 16, 2016 5 p.m.
It works. The computer you're using just hates Star City
March 16, 2016 5:11 p.m.
I see it. I just didn't bother with the description. Just go to Star City and look at their new plat. Kitten Jace.

Aristocrat seems decent. Will likely see play in Vampire Tribal if that becomes relevant, and is a good T1 play in Limited.
March 16, 2016 6:42 p.m.
Indulgent Aristocrat + Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet sounds good. Or Captivating Vampire in Modern (if you disregard the fact getting five vampires on board in Modern is basically impossible).
On a side note, are people really discussing the viability of Startled Awake? That card is garbage, people. Deliciously flavorful and cool-looking garbage, but garbage nonetheless.
Are you guys really excited about tapping out on T4 for a mill spell, then tapping out on T5 for an unprotected 1/1, then hopefully landing a hit on T6 and paying 4 mana to cast a mill spell again? That's 26 cards milled for THIRTEEN mana, assuming no removal, no counterspells and no blockers. Yeah, sounds like just what mill needed to become competitive.
March 16, 2016 6:45 p.m.
square711: I very seriously doubt that anyone is planning on using Startled Awake's creature side competitively. 13 cards for four mana is pretty ok for a standard mill deck, Im sure they'd be happy with just that tagging along with their tutelages and such.

I'm just hoping for a good new sorin planeswalker AND PLEASE NO ELDRAZI! Innistrad is my favorite plane and I don't want it ruined!

captainawesome3 Emrakool is inevitable. Sorry, it just is.

Octrate's idea of saying Olivia is busted in EDH/Commander for reanimate deck is genius! Discard fatties to make reanimated fatties hasty seems like a fun time! Red seems not very central to deck, besides Sneak Attack, and I guess Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker...

I am not certain if the loss of life from anguished unmaking is sufficient to balance its lower mana cost compared to utter end, but it is still a very awesome card, and, if I obtain one at the prerelease event, I shall use it without hesitation.
March 16, 2016 10:36 p.m.
@DemonDragonJ: I could see it doing work in a deck with Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim with some recurring fodder like Relentless Dead and Zulaport Cutthroats.
March 16, 2016 10:46 p.m.
I'm seriously making a binder filled with merciless resolves. Sorin is my favorite planeswalker of all time and he's finally getting a block to dominate.

Ej1997 Didn't he already dominate old Innistrad, kind of KTK, and old Zendikar even
