I've been having a debate about which is the better land card. Boros Garrison or Sacred Foundry ?

Definitely would like some input from some more experienced players especially. I also love using Clifftop Retreat but that's an obviously awesome card, no debate. but Im really trying to figure out which has the better advantage between Boros Garrison and Sacred Foundry. Any input is greatly appreciated!

Sacred Foundry is always going to be better. Basic land types + the ability to be untapped makes shocklands amongst the best of duals.

Sacred Foundry is the better card. This is because while it can be fetched from Arid Mesa and the like, it also can come into play untapped. In a long game, getting 3 lands for the price of two from Boros Garrison is nice, but being able to get the land untapped when you need it is always good.

It depends on the format. In a limited format that isn't ultra-fast, Boros Garrison is miles above Sacred Foundry . In a constructed format like Commander, there's an argument, but I feel that the Garrison is generally better because you get more mana per land, and it costs you pennies as opposed to $15+.

However, in any other constructed format (standard, modern, legacy, etc) Sacred Foundry is the better. Speed is very important, especially in a RW deck.

Sacred foundry is better, it can come in untapped (without use of Amulet of Vigor ), can be fetched with Arid Mesa or Farseek , and can make tap lands such as Rootbound Crag , Clifftop Retreat and the like come in untapped. It's a much better land, but it's only really necessary in a deck where mana fixing is going to be problematic, so decks with lots of colours and/or decks with horrendous mana curves turn 1 Champion of the Parish into turn 2 Ash Zealot , not possible without Cavern of Souls and Sacred Foundry .

Why not both? After you've tapped out to cast your spell, bounce the tapped land back to your hand, then replay the land next turn.

Sacred Foundry is generally better, but a control deck might gain slightly more benefit from Boros Garrison because it helps to make sure you hit every land drop. Regardless, you should probably just play both.

@ThEdUnCeCaP: For the Foundries I understand, but Garrison is like what? 50 cents? Why would money be an issue if he can afford the Foundries then it's quite clear he can afford the Garrisons

Sacred Foundry because it doesn't hurt as much if you get Ghost Quarter 'd/Wasteland 'd/Strip Mine 'd/Stone Rain 'd/etc. Oh, and it can come into play untapped.

Sylvannos has a strong point there. My very favourite target for Wasteland or Strip Mine et al is a Karoo that was just played, especially if it's a turn 2 play.

I love setting someone back two land drops. Two Time Walks for zero mana is pretty solid.
