Local FNM 4-1 (3rd Place) —May 30, 2015

Round 1 - Abzan Reanimator (2-0):

Beat out Fleecemane Lion, Siege Rhino and a Whip of Erebos. Even with removal I managed to keep around Battle Brawler, Arashin Foremost, Chief of the Edge, and Alesha, Who Smiles at Death. Add obelisk and boom. Note to abuse Ajani Steadfast's second ability.

Round 2 - Temur Aggro (1-2):

The only deck I lost to tonight. Had to mulligan to 5 cards g2, and g3 mulligan to 6 and was still a bit mana short.

Round 3 - Mardu Control (2-1):

This was a very fun match up. Won g1 and g3, but lost game two after my opponent dropped a Perilous Vault topped decked an Elspeth, Sun's Champion while I kept getting lands lol.

Round 4 - Reanimator Midrange (2-0):

Since midrange can generally last a bit long, this is where Zurgo Helmsmasher, Obelisk of Urd + Secure the Wastes , and Blood-Chin Fanatic come in extremely handy. Had to bring in some Utter Ends to neutralize the Whip of Erebos.

All in all, I think the deck performed pretty well, most cards performed exactly as I expected them to minus Athreos not dealing as much damage as he could have in some of the games.

Open to other ideas (but i'm still excluding rager since he is a much smaller threat than the brawler in the meta).

4 by of Obelisk of Urd seems like a mistake. 2 of maybe, but you gotta get some of those Crackling Doom onto the Main; its one of the best removals in standard and gets around hexproof for pesky Caryatids and Ojutai. Thanks for the input on my Zerg Rush.

Hmm, I think for my deck the Crackling Doom really should be SB for G1. Since most of the Creatures have first strike or double strike, so far in all the games a "bomb" will be dropped either too late, or it's with little effect, since I've gotten my Arashin to be a 5/4 double strike plenty of times (and it can be brought back with Alesha). So 10 to the face or almost any creature out there dies. Since first strike damage passes things like death touch, very little can get through those.

I do agree that maybe 4 obelisks might be too much, but the minimum I'm willing to have is 3 and maybe up the crackling dooms to 3. Those have also turned the tide instantly since I can generate tokens with the dooms or the secure the wastes EOT and then convoke it out putting tons of pressure on the opponent to deal with a lot of threats that showed up out of nowhere (have done a few games so far in casual play, really looking forward to see how FNM goes).

And NP, pretty interesting deck and cool name!

Blood-Chin Rager Is an amazing card... I would put him in over Battle Brawler Imagine an unblockable Zurgo Helmsmasher or have Zurgo go up +2 in one turn

I did consider him at a certain point but decided against him due to the meta right now...FNM is either control, abzan or den / raptor combos mostly so the brawler felt a lot stronger.

Plus he's a 3/2 first strike that can be brought back with alesha, which beats a lot of creatures out there atm. I might add the rager to my sb but I feel like he lacks that umph on his own or even with few creatures out...

HeavyR I think you might be right. I took them down to 2, and took out a Mardu charm for those Crackling dooms and I think that's a bit stronger.

Thanks!
