I Finally Took the Plunge —April 3, 2016

I finally added blue/Reflector Mage to the deck. I can't imagine it made things any worse in the long run, and I actually am starting to feel like this deck could gain some traction as a competitive player since it is now basically a Human-centric version of Bant Company. Calling it such unfortunately downplays the extent to which I brewed this build together, but hopefully those of you who have been around can testify that this is much more than a Bant Company net deck.

Keep the discussion coming if you feel like it!

CloudThumper: Sigarda, from my goldfishing and theory-crafting, isn't very necessary to the deck. As I was mentioning above, the hexproof isn't really why she is in here. Despite being the centerpoint of the deck, she provides a top end that -- if she lives to my next turn -- can begun refueling the field with dudes after an attrition battle has gone long. That said, I think the opponent will need more than just the removal for her. Gideon, ally of zendikar soaks up removal, as does thalia's lieutenant and potentially lambholt pacifist. And if they need to, they may have to burn removal on the hanweir militia.

That said, I'm not really worried too heavily about that.

I would put a few more Declaration in Stone in favor of Dromoka's Command. Since your deck is made up of a bunch of small creatures, the "fight" aspect isn't always going to be just removal, and the creature that is fighting is likely to trade as well.

Mortem: I don't disagree with that logic, though the fact that D-Command does double-duty by giving Lambholt Pacifist a counter to turn itself on means it's better when I don't know what I'm facing. I can always board into more copies of Dec if needed.

Oh yeah, didn't see that in your sideboard. Ok, makes sense.

npd2703: Noted. If I get another couple people suggesting it then I'll go ahead and make a nice one up!

Thought's on Tireless Tracker? It just hit me that it is a 3-drop human that allows me to draw cards if I'm having trouble with too many lands. That...seems really good?

Coincidentally, I'm finding myself not liking Hanweir Militia Captain, since this isn't a token deck and the payoff of very slow for it. I think I'll be swapping them out and maybe dropping a single Knight of the White Orchid as well to go up to three Tireless Trackers. It just feels right.

EVERYONE on Tappedout is doing a double-take and falling in love with Tireless Tracker. I look at a new deck - oh hello again. A thread - oh hi. Comments and chan- oh. This other dec- erm. This wal- well then. My own de- DAMMIT. XD I support it... and I bet everyone else does too. Mind if I place a small bet here that you'll go up to four copies soon?

i feel as if flyers will become a problem as this deck is mostly ground based with one angel with flying. i know you could make a creature fight with dromoka's command and declaration in stone to remove it, but is there another card that has flying/reach to deal with this. just a thought

NotSquishedYet: Haha is that right? Well that many people can't be wrong. I wouldn't be surprsied to see myself going up to 4 either. It feels like it just takes over if unanswered. Kind of a bad "army in a can" type effect like Goblin Rabblemaster or Brimaz, King of Oreskos had, but by going less wide with tokens and moreso tall and advantageous in cards.

maxmichell: It depends. For example, could I just outrace whatever fliers are on the other side? Can I do so if I gain life through Lantern Scout? This is still an aggro deck, and aggro's answer to evasion has usually been "just kill them".

Yea, my bad on the Tireless Tracker spam... I kind of added the card because it is my favorite card in the set and no one had yet. Then told everyone and my mother to try it. I think it's one of the most underrated cards I've seen in a while, constantly impressing me more and more. However in this list it seems that 3 is a good number, being so tight for space to fit all the awesomeness.

After quite a few playtests, I only found a couple issues that I had. I never found a good time for Always Watching , it was either dead, or I would have much rather been advancing my boardstate. Have you considered Arashin Foremost or Veteran Warleader?

March 29, 2016 9:03 p.m.

Tireless Tracker is absolutely fantastic, I would try to fit in a full playset.

March 29, 2016 9:07 p.m.

Going off of OutspokenFerret's suggestions, I think Veteran Warleader would be the better choice; It has proved quite powerful and useful to me in countless games, and I do not see any other warriors to work with Arashin Foremost despite it being a solid 2/2 double striker.

But Always Watching pairs so well with Lambholt Pacifist  Flip though! D:

I've playtested only twice, but Always Watching was sufficiently good both times (both for the pump and for Vigilance) to appear here as a 2-of. Although this needs to be tested further against various archetypes.

It may be sided out if needed though, depending on the situation.

Good point on the Pacifist... (Testing Intensifies)

Would people be interested in me actually giving this some decent testing and posting a deck tech article on it?

March 30, 2016 7:57 p.m.

Yes, actually. It could help with suggestions, I think. ;) I would like to see how it fares against various decks, as well.

I will once I am able to get it all together!

Could the SB Eerie Interludes be replaced with 2x Pulse of Murasa, considering that you have a fairly tokens/counters focused build? It seems to be a staple of Standard Bant decks, and performs exceedingly well as a 2-of in nearly every Bant list I have seen, many Jund lists, and all kinds of other decks.

I realize that Pulse of Murasa is also absurd with Den Protector as a slow-infinite combo of a (slightly expensive) bigger, less killable, evasive 'gain 6' version of Kitchen Finks. Now that I have realized that, I wish I had a much larger budget for Den Protectors.
