Took out Sturmgeist and Aeon Chronicler. Put in Iron Maiden and Anvil of Bogardan.

Also taking out Spiteful Visions. Not sure what I am adding yet.

So your aim is to group hug everyone to death (as opposed to winning through card advantage like Niv-Mizzet), correct?

If so, you should be careful. Combo/control decks will have a field day with this kind of strategy. You have to make sure you benefit from it a great deal more than your opponents.

Forced Fruition and card:Jace's Archivist seem like key cards with your approach. Consecrated Sphinx , too.

I think you've seen the List of EDH Staples and Power Cards. It may be worth browsing for possible additions if you haven't already.

Also, have you picked out a general yet?

I have not. Need some input there. nothing seemed like a perfect fit. Thinking of Crosis, the Purger

Are you set on the colors? You could just do Nicol Bolas himself.

more set on the concept than the colors. The colors just seemed to be the only ones that did what I needed. I did think about Nicol Bolas . Does he work better than Crosis in your expierience? It seemed like he would be much slower

Bolas is a bigger target for removal just because of the sheer power of his ability, but I don't necessarily think this deck will need to have its general on the field to work properly. It's mostly a matter of personal preference as to what general you pick; nothing really screams out as the go-to card for this kind of strategy. You could try each and see which you like better.

Alright. I think i have a rough skeleton now. Some help refining please.

Think card:Liliana's Caress and Megrim might be able to have a field day here as well. Cephalid Coliseum to squeeze an extra 3 cards out of yourself or an opponent?

Coleseum added.

I will consider the others too. They may help in my everyone draw to the pain idea

:looks like you're building a similar deck to mine: deck:crosis-the-deck-purger. Check it out and look for ideas. I know my deck needs more spot removal, but as it stands it's a pretty consistent turn 10 win. And I play mostly casual, so that's doable.

also Griselbrand is banned in EDH.

July 31, 2012 3:39 p.m.

Emrakool says... #12

Aw why'd they have to go and ban Russell Brand?

July 31, 2012 4:08 p.m.

squire1 says... #13

Griselbrand is unoficially banned currently. He was banned on the commander site, but not yet by WOTC. Next time wizards does bannings they will probably ban it, so good point I may take it out.

I will check out your deck though. Might help. Yeah I was thinking either more removal or counters

July 31, 2012 7:04 p.m.

Well the Commander site is technically the "official" resource for card legalities and everything else about the format - WotC defers to them on their own format. The Gatherer information for Griselbrand doesn't show it is legal in EDH.

Well I suppose he comes out then.

Have you considered Bloodgift Demon as a stand in for Griselbrand ?

August 1, 2012 3:49 p.m.

squire1 says... #17

I have actually. I am just not that impressed with Bloodgift Demon . I am going to start playtesting next week though and will certainly keep it in mind.

This is a nice-looking deck, but this is a fundamentally flawed strategy. I played with someone who used a similar concept, especially based around Forced Fruition , then copy the enchantment once or twice so casting a spell would put 14 or 21 cards in a player's hand. He got one person to voluntarily mill himself (he just really wanted to play his Sol Ring ), but ultimately I don't think it works out. There were four other players at the table and everyone has to have at least a couple answers in their deck, with drawing, as opposed to milling, of course someone, or more than one person, gets the answer to their hand.

You may be right. But there are a lot of combos with this deck that could take out every play at the same time. I think it has a chance of winning and should be fun to play. But as I said you may be right. When I playtest next week I will post results.

This may seem like a weird choice, but Viridian Longbow works well with nicol bolas

Emrakool says... #21

Noticed Emrakul in the SB unless anything changed he's banned in EDH as well.

For card advantage...

Arcanis the Omnipotent

Phyrexian Arena

Can't think of the one where you draw and lose life for each zombie you control.

August 1, 2012 9:08 p.m.

squire1 says... #22

I like arcanis, but I could not see where to fit him in. Any suggestions? The arena is similar to bloodgift demon. Actually I would rather have the demon given the choice.

Any suggestions on what to replace emrakul with in sideboard? I had him there mostly just for the reshuffling.

I will think about the crossbow. It seems very cool but I don't see actually using nicol bolas that much. Just seemed to fit the colors

August 1, 2012 9:56 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #23

You could try Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre for the reshuffling bit.

Another thing you might want to be wary of is anyone who might have Maralen of the Mornsong either in their decks or as their general. As soon as it hits the field it would render YOUR ENTIRE DECK almost completely useless...

August 1, 2012 10:05 p.m.

squire1 says... #25

Yeah that would suck. Does anyone know if it is commonly played? I do have some removal which I could hold on to. Possibly more removal in the. Sideboard?
