Massive Changes —Nov. 13, 2018
So I've gotten fat packs and the dimir guild kit. So this deck might change entirely or , at this rate, change entirely. Unfortunately even Nicol Bolas, the Ravager may be removed entirely. But thank you again to all of the advice and patience

your deck is all over the place, you need to fine tool it to a meta deck or atlest close to one. otherwise your opponent will always have a upper hand if they have a meta deck which is 90% of the time they will. but your deck is more of a kitchen table type deck if that's what you are going for and not competeing in the meta.

I'm not understanding what you mean by a kitchen table type deck lordreven777.
Do you have any suggestions perhaps?
I don't mind meta but I feel like it gets a bit bland seeing the same concept just different cards.

What he means is, focus on one thing. If you want to surveil, focus your entire deck towards that goal. If you want to mill, mill them to death. If you want to bring things back from the graveyard, build your deck in such a way that you get the most you can from it.
Every proper deck does 2 things, and no more. 1. It stops your opponent from winning the game. Kill spells and counter spells fit in this catagory. 2. And this one is important, it wins you the game in a very focused way.
What your deck does is a bunch of random things here and there, but the many things it does dont work together, so you have no idea how you should be playing your deck, since you never know what you are going to draw.

So in your opinion xhuggels based on what I have currently what would you suggest?
October 29, 2018 6:25 p.m.
It entirely depends on what you want to do most. I would suggest first decide whether you want to mill or surveil. If you want to mill, you will want to either go mono blue or blue/black in a control shell(lots of counter and killspells), with 3 copies of Psychic Corrosion and Patient Rebuilding, with maybe 1 or two copies of Fleet Swallower, but usually mill decks dont rin creatures. If you want to surveil there are two ways you can go. You can go the blue/black discard route, where you play 4 copies of Disinformation Campaign and Thought Erasure, with Unmoored Ego in the sideboard. For creatures you wil want 2 copies Dream Eater, and 4 copies of Doom Whisperer, along with some Nightveil Predator, for 8-9 creatures total. If you are on a budget use more Dream Eater and less or no Doom Whisperer. The rest of the cards will just be killspells and surveil like Discovery / Dispersal and Notion Rain. The other way you can go wth surveil is the creature heavy way with 4 copies of Dimir Spybug, Thoughtbound Phantasm and Nightveil Sprite or House Guildmage. There are lots of other surveil creatures you can add as well, but your main focus would be to make Dimir Spybug or Thoughtbound Phantasm big enough to win you the game.
One final way you can go, that awkwardly enough can combine both mill and surveil in a decent way is to go with blue/black Drowned Secrets and Thief of Sanity and Lazav, the Multifarious. You will want all your spells to have blue in them, so no black only spells. Many of the blue/black spells we have in standard do have something to do with surveil, and you can use surveil to find these key cards so you can mill them real bad.

Ah. Yeah you have the excitement about the cards almost like you are seeing them for the first time in a way, so figured you were either new or back after a break. The way i see it, everyone can play the game, but i wouldnt want you to just pick up a net deck and play it, since net deckers usually have a limited understanding on their own decks. What i would like to see is more deckbuilders out there. If you ever have questions about deck ideas id be happy to look them over and point you in the right direction. Building a deck that works actually quite complecated, but also incredibly fun once you get a hang of it. You need to balance a good offensive strategy with adequate defense. You also need to build the right landbase for your manacurve, and thats not even talking about manafixing in the case of 3 color decks. That one is a pretty scary concept most people either avoid or get wrong. For your landbase in this specific deck, considering you are running 60 cards, which there is almost no reason not to, you want to ask yourself how many lands do you need in order to play most of your cards. Seems like 3 lands is your sweetspot. There are some math i can teach you, but for now i just advise that in order to get 3 lands by turn 3 every game in a 60 card deck, you need at least 21 lands.

October 30, 2018 9:30 a.m.
hmm, what is the deck for? do you play at fnm, mtgo, mtg arena or once in a while against friends?
when it comes to paper cards i generally stick to budget decks myself since a proper deck can be quite expensive, but then again at fnm you can win packs you can use to start building other decks as well, so you can make your money back in a way.
October 30, 2018 6:06 p.m.
Then youd probably want to go more on the budget side in regards to cards. For paper i usually use cardkingdom and buy near mint condition or the one after that. Never buy mint since you wont be able to sell it as mint, but you dont want horridly worn cards either. You probably want to use the really good cards you have already and see if you can build something around it. Would you mind listing the legendary and uncommon standard cards you got so we can see what we can put together

Jy lieg mos nou! Im a capetonian myself boss! Ill get back to you on that one. You really can try orzhov knights so i think you are on the right track. green elves can be budget too. The other really solid budget decks out there are mono white or mono blue weenie. There is also a budget monogreen Marwyn, the Nurturer combo deck going around, where you tap him for mana, make him bigger while untapping him and then tapping him for more mana. Its pretty cute when it pops off.
