Sideboard

The stars sure are dark tonight...

Constellation is one of those gimmicky things that you either embrace, or avoid. In most situations, I avoided it. There were a lot of powerful Enchantments and Gods in Theros block, and I actually really enjoyed the set. As it shifted out of Standard I took a look at my Black Aggro (Blaggro) deck that I had made and looked a little further into its possibilities.

I stayed as close to Standard as I could in terms of when the block was legal and came up with a pretty fun and efficient deck.

Doomwake Giant is the only card that actually has Constellation, but a huge amount of this deck triggers it. Every single creature is from the block, and is actually an Enchantment themselves.

Brain Maggot is a gross little card that is great for all stages of the game, getting to know your opponents hand... crawling up inside their thought process... shudder... look, the idea of a crawly grub burrowing into someone's ear is gut wrenching and I don't want to talk about it anymore.

Master of the Feast is another Enchantment Creature that is a big play on turn three. A 5/5 Flyer is no joke and hopefully will instill panic in your opponent, especially if you just saw their hand and know they don't have an answer. Or you took it. Either way, the drawback of card draw is turned into an advantage with Fate Unraveler , another fun Enchantment Creature card from the block that punishes opponents that like to draw cards. Or that you force to draw cards. Like converting Sign in Blood into a black burn spell.

Probably my favorite two-fer move is Murder and Tragic Slip. Both great cards, but together they tell a tragic story of deceit. I murder your friend and push you into their grave. Deal with it.

Yay!

Cards like Crippling Blight and Dead Weight are in for their cheap cost as Enchantments that double as removal and can even wipe the board if you have a Doomwake Giant . They work well with Tragic Slip as well to pick off a lowly 1/1 or 2/2 and then follow up by putting down something as big as a 13/13 for only two mana total. A great way to deal with indestructible masses that would otherwise kill you.

Finally, the game shifter that can really give you an advantage early on or shift the tide of battle is Cruel Feeding . Hitting Master of the Feast is six life gained and likely six life lost for your opponent or a very dead blocker. Being able to string it along with it's Strive cost to hit Doomwake Giant or just another Master make it even stronger.

Sideboard adds several ways to wipe out the other side of the table with cards like Extinguish All Hope and Killing Wave. Spiteful Blow is a real kick in the pants, albeit expensive. Feast of Dreams works as a two card kill shot when dropped on a fatty that has "Dead Weight". Disentomb can come in handy against control that keeps killing your stuff, and Dictate of Erebos adds a bit of quid quo pro to battles. You can even blow up your own creature to force a sacrifice if you had to. Why not.

Thanks for reading, let me know what you think of this casual Modern Theme deck :)
