Slowly updating all the Sideboard Notes —May 11, 2017

I have recently made significant changes to the Sideboard for this deck.

As a result I need to update all the Sideboard Notes.

This is quite a long process, as I have to conduct extensive play tests against each deck in the Notes, including testing its Sideboard against mine.

Apologies if you were relying on Notes that aren't updated yet.

I lost against a jeskai Dynavolt Tower deck and UW control. Usually I find it quite hard to go against blue because now they have a lot of cheap counters. Even if they they are not cheap, Three mana counters just parry against my minotaurs, since most of them are 3 mana to cast. They have Horribly Awry and Essence Scatter. Not to mention Disallow and many other counters. Then they flash Torrential Gearhulk and you are basically done. Any advice?

McSky23 is this in a real life tournament?

Did you use the updated Sideboard that has By Force?

I think I've said quite a few times that Control is this deck's toughest match up.

You need to just keep playing Creatures until they run out of spells, use By Force to kill Artifacts, and get rid of spells from the Graveyard with Scarab Feast, before they recur them with Torrential Gearhulk.

Argeaux, would you be willing to help me build a Modern deck? I saw you like to build decks more than play them. I also saw you like a challenge, and my deck is quite unconventional.

musicman3310 unfortunately I know NOTHING about Modern.

I don't play the format.

I'm sure if you post in the Modern deck building forum someone will give you a hand,

McSky23 don't click all the cards you have mentioned in your Comment, as suggestions.

It is annoying, and downright silly, for me to have to dismiss a whole lot of cards that you have suggested for my deck.

Oops sorry. I'll try.

Anyway, I really appreciate this list. Minotaur was my first ever deck. I was hyped it came back.

McSky23 you have not answered the questions I asked you.

Let's try it again.

Questions to answer

  1. Did you pilot this deck in a real life tournament?

  2. Did you use the updated Sideboard that has By Force?

Minotaurs were also the first deck I ever built, back in the Theros block.

It sure is a nice deck. Personally i would make a few tweaks for perfection . Have you considered madness cards? Fiery Temper or Alms of the Vein would fit perfect. Also, this cycle, has Fatal Push . How do you deal with it?

This deck is perfectly tuned.

Playtest it.

Did you check the list of cards I have already considered? Probably not as you mentioned some of them.

Cut / Ribbons is a better Alms of the Vein, as far as I'm concerned.

Supernatural Stamina takes one look at Fatal Push, laughs itself silly, and punts it off the field.

Ohhh i see... Well, i am worried about your discard and I don't want you, to stay behind. Anyways, i have the cards from my pre release. I will build this real life and i will playest!

Some people have built other versions of this deck with cards that give value when discarded.

The reason I haven't is that you only have three cards that allow you to discard - the Bloodrage Brawlers.

For me, that wasn't worth it.

If you had Lightning Axe in as well, I could see cards like Fiery Temper having more chance of a Madness cast.

At the end of the day we all have to build the version of this deck that matches our play styles the best.

Good luck, ROUROU.

  1. Yes, in an FNM.
  2. No, there was Lay Bare the Heart in the sideboard.

McSky23 I think you'll do better in your meta with the current Sideboard.

I didn't adjust it until after my first FNM.

By Force will let you get rid of those pesky Artifacts, and Scarab Feast will let you Exile some spells before Torrential Gearhulk recurs them.

Control will always be a problem for this deck, unfortunately.

I've set up suggestions for it in the Sideboard Notes.

McSky23 just giving you a heads up that I changed the Sideboard again.

This is for the Control match up.

McSky23 I'm still mucking around with final numbers.

This should help against those problematic decks.

Argeaux What options do you have for Marvel? Rumor is, it's starting to creep back up

He has By Force side-boarded to deal with cards like Aetherworks Marvel.

AgentGreen I've got Brute Force and in the Sideboard against Aetherworks Marvel.

If there are lots of it my local metal I may have to swap Lay Bare the Heart for Transgress the Mind.

Dear, dear, sweet, innocent little Bano42

How pleasant it must be to live in your NO GIRLS ALLOWED pillow fort.

One of these days you must stumble out of that fort, and come over to my place, to play tea parties with my dollies.

Then we can climb some trees, and cut things with our pocket knives.

Until such time, enjoy your little fort.

No worries.

My tone was actually one of amusement, due to AgentGreen.

I try to use gender neutral language on TappedOut, as you never know who are talking with.
