Laughing Jasper Flint

Legendary Creature — Lizard Rogue

Creatures you control but don't own are Mercenaries in addition to their other types.

At the beginning of your upkeep, exile the top X cards of target opponent's library, where X is the number of outlaws you control. Until end of turn, you may cast spells from among those cards, and mana of any type can be spent to cast those spells.

Tsukimi on A Threateningly Good Time

Herigast, Erupting Nullkite, Laughing Jasper Flint, and Bazaar Trader are just a few that popped out to me as not really helping your Steal and Sac strategy. I'd say you want more sac outlets that can stick around other than your commander, stuff like Viscera Seer or Culling Dais are a few that come to mind.

Lmao KBK7101, when one of the spoiler teasers was "A character from a popular Magic story is returning", I was really hoping that it was going to be Alesha. You should still build her!

It's gonna be a bit before I put her together in paper irl. I'm still getting reps in with my (mostly proxied) Laughing Jasper Flint deck; one of my friends gave it to me over the weekend. I typically try not to run multiple commanders in the exact same color combo, but I can make an exception for Alesha lol. My wife and I are going to be moving to a new place in the next couple of weeks, so new cards are taking a back seat until we're all settled in.

Crow_Umbra on I wanna be the evil …

I think Red/Black is a great core to have as a component of "evilness". The third color gives you different flavors of villainy.

  • Malik, Grim Manipulator - Especially if the Universes Beyond version isn't your cup of tea.

  • Extus, Oriq Overlord  Flip/Awaken the Blood Avatar  Flip - For a different flavor of Evil Wizard that isn't Grixis.

  • Anhelo, the Painter / Lord Xander, the Collector - If you want a different flavor of Grixis beyond "Evil Wizard". From having played Anhelo, he's a weird mix of spellslinger and Aristocrats that kinda pushes and pulls between the archetypes.

  • Henzie "Toolbox" Torre - Henzie is more amoral than evil in lore. From consistently playing against my best friend's Henzie deck, this is definitely a commander that can consistently become the arch enemy of games. Highly recommend him for how explosive he can be.

  • Laughing Jasper Flint - Play a bunch of Outlaws and twirl your imaginary mustache. Olivia, Opulent Outlaw adds white and all the support and excellent removal options from it.

  • Prosper, Tome-Boundfoil - Prosper seems more like an amoral Warlock, than actually evil. Regardless, Prosper has quite a reputation, and can turn into an archenemy at tables. I used to play him, and didn't expect him to get nearly as much Treasure and Impulse/Exile play support as he did since his debut. He could also be a value piece in Jasper Flint or Olivia, since Warlocks are Outlaws.

  • Jon Irenicus, Shattered One - Another different flavor of Evil Wizard. Can be a fun kind of evil depending on the creatures you donate to your opponents.

Just a handful of options I can think of off the top of my head.

Laughing Jasper Flint would excel in your gameplan, and Grim Initiate or Shambling Ghast would be good 1-drops.

Professor Onyx stands out as not being great for the gameplan, I highly recommend Tevesh Szat, Doom of Fools. Great sack outlet with great card draw, AND steals your opponent's commanders. In that same vein, Brainstealer Dragon.

I'm glad Tsukimi! We have to cultivate the culture & interactions we would like to experience in our digital communities. Setting boundaries with friends can be tough, but will help you avoid that social and brewing burn out.

Yeah, new Vraska looks like she could be pretty fun! I feel like I'm typically most on the same page for brewing with you and KBK7101 lol.

I started brewing Vraska in the past week or so (along with Taii Wakeen, Perfect Shot, Laughing Jasper Flint, Olivia, Opulent Outlaw, and Felix Five-Boots lol). The deck is still kinda rough as I zero in on different ratios for ramp and removal. I've been goldfishing with 3 other tabs open to different friends' decks to get a better idea for some of that pacing. The deck name is in light of some of the more recent Vraska & Jace lore: Petrified by the Gorgussy. Might change that name lol.

Crow_Umbra on Fuck it, late Outlaw of …

In the stuff I've been brewing and tinkering so far, putting together an Outlaw deck has been pretty fun. I like Batching design space like Party and Outlaws, since they scratch that Typal/Tribal/Kindred itch for me. Generally speaking, I like how much more flexibility they allow for creature bases without railroading you into leaning into a single creature type.

Putting together a creature base for Outlaws has felt really fun, and cards like Black Market Connections feel even more flavorful in this context. I've mostly been focusing on Laughing Jasper Flint, and Olivia, Opulent Outlaw is a kind of distant second at this point.
