Wow, I love this idea! I don't know many Modern creatures but I think Highway Robber and Cuombajj Witches have newer printings which should make them legal! They are pretty fun but might be too expensive for the effect they provide.
If for what ever reason you make a Vintage version of this theme, Urborg Stalker, Rathi Fiend, Dakmor Ghoul, The Fallen, Choking Sands, Drain Life, and Famine are some of my favorite old-school direct damage cards :)

Thanks for the feedback Navig8_North. I really like Bontu's Monument thanks for the suggestion. The other cards just dont fit or are too expensive (Dakmor Ghoul) If I play 1v1 I usually play some kind of cancer control deck and tailor my control to a single threat. When racing against 1 player having more burst ramp and card draw is essential for perfect tempo but in multiplayer other threats come up that need answers and having more bodies is important.

Why are you thinking about removing the Hellkite? Is it the high CMC?
Other lower CMC options that do similar things include the following: Gibbering Fiend, Keldon Marauders, Impact Tremors, Forgeborn Oreads, Keldon Champion, Foundry Champion, Blind Hunter, Bloodhunter Bat, Dakmor Ghoul, Grim Guardian, Pierce Strider, Purphoros, God of the Forge, and Outpost Siege. Personally, I think Gibbering Fiend and Keldon Marauders are the best. They're super low CMC, so you can play them much earlier in the game and start pinging the opponent for more damage sooner.
Invader Parasite is another option, if you don't mind not having any friends. Just make sure you don't accidentally exile all of your own lands, too.
