Arrow Volley Trap

Instant — Trap

If four or more creatures are attacking, you may pay {1}{W} rather than pay Arrow Volley Trap's mana cost.

Arrow Volley Trap deals 5 damage divided as you choose among any number of target attacking creatures.

White does have ways of dealing damage to attacking or blocking creatures like Arrow Volley Trap. Would it be too powerful if it was an instant?

I'm loving the idea, have you considered Marrow Shards/Rain of Blades/Thunderstaff? Its a little faster than secure the wastes for trading, although it can't handle swan song/pongify. Black has access to the terrifying Night of Souls' Betrayal which would make this really kick butt, and give Esper Charm and Flaying Tendrils access, but that makes the mana tricky. Palace Guard has potential, but I'd rather see some Condemn as spot removal. Darksteel Mutation also exists, but grants indestructable. Searing Light exists, but i'm feeling like that would trade poorly compared to Arrow Volley Trap.Blade Splicer, Attended Knight and Precinct Captain would all trade well and provide a stronger creature base should you desire it.

All told, I really like the idea and list.

Arrow Volley Trap? Baloth Cage Trap? Definitely Booby Trap. Cobra Trap. Leonin Bladetrap? Refraction Trap? Slingbow Trap for sure. Summoning Trap, only if you have enough creatures for it to be worth it. Trap Digger if you go non-modern. Trap Runner too.

Also, adding any of the other colors isn't awful - blue in particular has some good traps to offer, and red and black have a handful too.

No doubt -- But others like Cobra Trap and Arrow Volley Trap fit perfectly. It's not like they'd just transplant all the traps and not make any new ones.

Curses would be so so good. Especially, as you say, they'd be different to the Innistrad ones -- Personally I think they'd mostly be Bolas colours, and I'd hope we'd get a Rakdos Curse commander, but that's just me spitballing. I would however like to see a green "Curse of Locusts" or something similar, classic Egyptian Curse.

lol, perfection is perfect. =P

Also, consider dropping Arrow Volley Trap and replacing it with Feat of Resistance (one of my favorite cards).

Also also, as for your commander, I would (ideally) try to keep about 6 or seven counters on him, that way he's threatening a win by Commander-damage in four turns or less. But I would also keep putting more counters on him, and then pumping up other creatures by moving them, but never let him get too low. That way, he is harder to remove by damage. Additionally, I would use white's "protection" spells or artifact hexproof to keep him safe. That's my first impression, but playtesting might change that strategy over time, too.

I personally have two decks based around +1/+1 counters, because they are a fun, explosive strategy. An abzan modern deck (Bolster a Corpsejack Menace to Society...) and a naya edh (Naya'll Feel Marath), which you could look at for inspiration (I use a LOT of green cards you might like, too many to list here, lol, plus some good white ones in the EDH deck).

Oh yeah! Also also also, Wall of Limbs might be fun, too.
