How to FIght Lifegain?

Standard Deck Help forum

So I've got a friend that is playing a life gain deck. He's playing Sacred Cat, Authority of the Consuls, Crested Sunmare, Anointed Procession, Oketra's Monument, and some creatures. Is there a certain type of deck that runs better against life gain? I've been running /, but all has is counters, (Which I never seem to get at the right time, i'm looking into cards like Expel from Orazca to help get rid of them when they make it to the battlefield) and all has is Rampaing Ferocidon. He's just able to go wide fast with tokens or if I counter the enchantments he can hit hard with Sunmare and if I counter them he hits me with Victory's Herald. So, I'm going to have to start looking in other places. That's why I came to you guys. Any help would be appreciated.

Fiery Cannonade deals with smaller tokens very well. I run RDW myself and just magma spray sacred cats and lightning strike anoiter priest before they can gain the life.

I tried out Blazing Volley tonight and it did great, but then he used Shefet Dunes on me. So Fiery Cannonade would have been a lot better choice! Thanks Atroxreaper!

Ah, got cut off. Ferocidon pairs well with green in standard if you need to stop a wall of lifegain. Saprolings bruh.

The problem with Blazing Volley and Fiery Cannonade are that they don't kill the Crested Sunmare, his horses, or Victory's Herald. Sweltering Suns doesn't solve the problem either. Only Hour of Devastation does that.

He couldn't activate Shefet Dunes in response to your Blazing Volley it specifies 'sorcery speed only' on the card.

Utilizing alternate win conditions is always fun, like using infect, mill, or cards like Biovisionary.Alternatively, there's cards like Everlasting Torment are good for stopping healing in general.

as a note Ferocidon is no longer standard legal

I don't believe there is another way to prevent life gain in standard so Hour of Devastation + Fiery Cannonade / Sweltering Suns are probably the best bet

You think Life gain could become a competitive standard deck? You know the saying, If you can't beat em, join em!

I understand that red was built after Ramunap Ruins and I know my deck wasn't perfect, but I might have used the ability once or twice. I didn't think they were that pivotal to the deck. I guess I was very wrong.
